The snow fell softly, not near as harshly as the Canadian Decembers that Touma remembered from his childhood. As he stepped off the plane the cold wind caught his attention, momentarily ripping his breath away and stinging his skin before he got used to it. It had been years since he had been on Canadian soil and years since he'd spoken to his uncle with whom he'd be staying. He remembered enjoying spending time with his uncle when he was younger, but there's a difference between playing with someone when you're seven and living with them when you're twenty-three.
Touma got his bags from the baggage claim. Shifting his weight between his feet as he tried to spot the his uncle, moving his bags from his left hand to his right trying not to drop them. He was looking for a long time, scanning every face to find the man, but he was unsuccessful in doing so; in all honesty Touma was unsure he would even recognize Brian.
A light touch to his shoulder caused him to jump and quickly turn to face the person. A chuckle rang in his ears as he took in the sight of the man with smile lines being a prominent feature on his face. It took a while, but Touma was able to identify him as his uncle Brian.
"Didn't mean to scary you kiddo." Brian spoke when he stopped laughing. His voice was clear and sharp, it rang like a bell in Touma's ears, yet it held kindness in it. Brian's eyes took in his nephew and all his changes, he wasn't surprised by any of them knowing that time is the biggest change. He was admiring how grown-up the boy appeared when his eyes landed on Touma's shaking arms that were struggling to hold his bags up. Brian carefully took one from him and was surprised by the weight.
"Thank you." Touma spoke for the first time since he'd landed. His voice was soft and quiet, Brian had to really concentrate to hear him, the boys accent reminding Brian a lot of a particular student of his. Yuzuru Hanyu had been training with Brian for almost nine years now, and even though his accent was slowly fading, Touma's accent brought him back down memory lane. Touma's announcement that he was coming home had already sent Brian's brain back to 2004, and now the boy's accent brought him back to 2011, Brian felt out of place in the present as his mind yearned to go back in time to the certainty of many fond memories.
Touma tilted his head as he stared at the older who had stood there, seamingly lost in thought, for a good two minutes now. Clearing his throat to get the mans attention, he averted his eyes knowing that is is rude to stare. The small noise snapped Brian back into reality, slightly embarrassed by his own strange behavior.
"You ready to go?" Brian questioned, only answered with a nod. Brain nodded back at him muttering a small 'ok then', before leading the boy to his car. His car wasn't flashy, just your average four door five seat car; painted a deep red. They put Touma's luggage into the trunk and got in. It felt wierd to Brian having someone sit next to him as he drove, yet it would have been more strange if Touma had situated himself in the back seat. The car was quiet and both of them felt awkward not talking, but they didn't know what to talk about. Brian's eyes made a quick glance at the clock, 3:23 am. Brian internally groaned, it was too early and he had to be at the rink at 5:45 at the latest to prepare for his students to arrive at 6:00, and he still had an hour to drive before he was home plus a fifteen minute commute from his home to the Tronto Cricket Club (TCC). He could only imagine how his nephew felt, Touma had to be at the ballet studio, right across the street from the TCC, at 6:00 after his 15 hour flight from his previous home in Nagoya, Japan.
He glance over at the boy, only to find him asleep with his head pressed against the glass of the window. Touma's knees were brought up to his chest, his arms wrapped around them as if he were cuddling with himself, his fluffy white locks flattened out to fall mostly over his eyes. Brian couldn't help but smile as he was reminded of a young boy with jet black hair, who would fall asleep in the same position in the back seat of Brian's car after dance practices. Brian had practically raised this boy, and his older brothers, from birth until their mother, Brian's sister, and their father decided to move to Japan. With an already failing marriage, Brian could never understand why his sister had followed her husband outside of the country. He could never wrap his brain around why she removed her children from everything they knew for a man she no longer loved. It made Brian's blood boil to think about the father of his darling nephews, but it wasn't his place to speak, so he bit his tounge (like he always had) and decided to just be happy over the return of his youngest nephew.A/N...
