Chapter 1

I don't remember the first time I went into the other world.

I was probably young, because I couldn't remember a time when I wasn't so afraid of sleeping. But now it was part of me, haunting me with never ending nightmares. A curse I was forced to bear.

Hesitantly I turned of the light, knowing what would follow. Blackness clouds the room. Then the usual hum as I drifted to sleep. As soon as my eyelids closed I knew I was there again. I was trapped.

Instead of my bedroom I was now surrounded by long, metal bars. I knew I would be able to squeeze through, but when I got close enough my body began to grow.

I was getting fatter and fatter, and then my insides began to burn. The excruciating pain became me, and I collapsed on the floor.

The cage opened up and instantly I became aware that I was plunging through the air at a terrifying speed.

As I opened my mouth to scream, air filled with a sickly, poisonous gas poured into my lungs. I coughed and spluttered until I threw up, and began rapidly decreasing in size.

Soon I was so thin that my skin clung tightly to the skinny remains of my frame. A hard wooden floor was suddenly supporting me, and I was in a room full of mirrors.

I was the reflection in every mirror. I stared in shock at my appalling appearance. My hair was falling out in clumps from my head. My skin was tearing and I was covered in bruises, dark circles and blood.

I heard creaking and looked above me. The roof of the room was slowly getting closer to the ground. As it reached my head I lay down, screaming in terror. It closed in on me, an inch away from squishing me flat.

Suddenly the room was filled with evil cackling and a wave of dread swept over my body. She was here.

The familiar figure crawled into the room. She had eight clawed legs, no arms and her face was one of a demon. She wore dark black lipstick on her thin lips and smiled, revealing her rotten yellowed fangs.

That was as far as I had ever got. Each night, I usually dreamt a little bit more of the nightmarish land.

I braced myself as a new scenario played out in front of me and the beast crawled closer then ever before.

'Dinner time," it breathed. It licked its lips with a look of absolute hunger.

I woke up, sweating. I buried my face in my pillow to muffle my screams.

Normal kids would whisper "just a nightmare," over and over to themselves until they believed, however I knew better. Whatever this was, it was more then an ordinary nightmare.

I didn't bother staying awake and let the drowsiness caused by my fear overcome me. I had already had the nightmare tonight.

I just feared what would happen tomorrow.
