Patient's Name: John Thompson

Age: 38

Diagnosis: Acute Sexual Anxiety

Treatment: Four verbal sessions to explore the emotional basis of anxiety. Four sessions with a sexual assistant.

John Thompson swiped the electronic key to the hotel room and opened the door.

"Hello, John," said a soft voice from inside the room.

"Hello, Nancy," he responded. "May I come in?"

"Please. Make yourself comfortable. Come, sit here next to me."

John closed the door and admired the trendy arrangement of the room. The bed was tucked away in a corner. The rest of the room was more of a sitting area equipped with a glass desk, two suspension chairs, and a leather couch. Nancy sat at one end of the sofa, legs crossed, and one arm draped on the armrest, with the other patting the cushion next to her. She wore a short black skirt with a white silk top. Her high heels were lying on their sides next to her bare feet. Through the window blinds, the sun was setting over the ocean.

"It is so good to see you again," she said.

John sat down next to Nancy in an awkward fashion, trying not to touch her with his arms or legs. He coughed nervously.

"There is no limit to tonight's session," she began with a trace of sexy charm. "I am here to teach you some skills you will need to be relaxed and confident with a woman. As Dr. Greenberg explained, sex is not required or expected. Instead, we will begin with the simple things. Remember, I have taken a vow to never speak of what happens in these sessions, and I definitely make no judgments."

"Okay," responded John. "Where do I start?"

Nancy leaned a little closer to John. "Close your eyes. Relax. Imagine that we have been out on a date. I have invited you back to my place. This is a signal by the woman that she wants to learn more about you and possibly see what you are like romantically."

"Romantically?" asked John.

"Yes," she answered. "At this point is where the road divides. Because of your age, the women you will meet will be older, and many have found they enjoy sexual relationships. They will not be shy. They will go straight for sex."

John blushed noticeably. "Really?"

"Yes," said Nancy in a reassuring voice. "You will stay away from such women at first. You need to find a woman a little shy and uncertain. Someone like you are now. My job is to show you how to go from being shy to being confident."

"Okay?" was all John could offer for a response.

"Start with an understanding that you do not want to have sex tonight. Instead, your goal is to kiss the woman." Nancy studied his reaction, then offered, "Let's begin."

John drew in a nervous breath. Nancy gently took his left hand and place in on the back of the couch.

"To begin," she whispered, "place your arm just behind the woman. Don't try to put it around her shoulder. And, sit with your legs pointing slightly towards her. That shows you are interested in her, but you are polite."

John changed his position.

"Now look at the woman," continued Nancy. "If she is sitting like me with legs crossed but hands away from her body, she is interested in you but does not completely trust you. In this situation, you need to go very slow."

"Slow? How?" asked John. He was finding Nancy charming and educational.

"Just talk to me. Women like compliments, so tell me how much you enjoyed our dinner tonight. Tell me how good it is to be able to relax and enjoy a real conversation. Go ahead, John," she coaxed.
