"Well then." A man in commander's uniform yelled from no less than three feet in front of the line of kids no older than 13 in normal uniforms.  " Congratulations  on surviving your first year of  being front line trash, that being said, there is good news for you nameless shits. You all are gifted the right to proper names by order of the higher-ups." Some of the kids looked at each other, none of them had names when Sargent Alai picked them off the streets. Most of the children are identified by their numbers, in Tech's case, he was "named" after his job.

"So maggots, line up and name yourself when it's your turn for inspection." Sargent Alai yelled again. Following orders the children lined up "001" stood on one end and "tech" stood at the other, the children numbered 002-028 stood between them in a line almost mechanically straight.

001, a tall green eyed brown haired boy with scars marring his otherwise rather handsome face. He was appointed leader of the unit because he was the leader of the group when they were that man's experiments. "... Ryne reporting Sargent Alai sir" the boy now named Ryne barked like they were trained only instead of his number he used his new name.

"Very good choice Ryne." Sargent Alai grinned "little king eh? Very well next."

(A/n- Only  Ryne, 012, 028 , and "tech" matter anyway  so I'll just do those four)

Sargent Alai stood in front of 012, the girl was a "failed product", her eyes slit and ears oddly catlike. After a pause Sargent Alai barked  "012, report."

"Elf reporting sir." she responded her ears folding back  she never liked speaking to people with authority a side affect from the abuse she suffered. That said she was amazing in infiltration missions.

Sargent Alai continued down the line some officially named themselves after the numbers they have used for the past two years others picked their names off Ryne's example of chosing names based off their primary jobs.

028, a strong, intelligent boy clearly not interested in the naming grinned as always at the Sargent in front of him. "I'll call myself grain sir." The Sargent expected this and chuckled at the child's audacity.

" Grain as in the food group?" Sargent Alai spoke at a normal volume for a change, though his tone was extremely amused.

"Reporting, sir." The newly named boy confirmed with a straight face.

"Okay then moving on." The Sargent chuckled. Moving down to the last child, tech, looking at the child it was nearly impossible to tell the kid's gender. And this kid was rarely deployed with the others and was mostly assigned to a lab but made all equipment that the unit uses.

The slightly monotone that the child spoke in is something Sargent Alai always found creepy,"I is reporting sir."

"Ai as in love! How ironic!" The Sargent laughed. Only to stop laughing as the child corrected him.

"No sir. I as in the English first person denotation of self."

"Oh." Sargent Alai sighed then returned to shouting like he wanted everything from Atlantis to Lemoria to hear and obey. "Now then in case you shits were wondering why you get names now, it's because after your next mission your unit is getting disbanded as the public have caught wind of your existence and demanded that you lot are 'kids and need a normal childhood' and get handed off to the orphanage with proper payment for your service."

Ryne rose his hand, "have we the right to refuse this dismissal?"

"No. You don't." The Sargent huffed.  "You lot have 76 hours to rest before your last mission. Use it wisely dismissed."
