I knocked and opened the door.
"Hello Captain, sorry to disturb, I have a few letters for you." I said.
I pile an overflowing box of letters on his desk. I turned around, headed back towards the door trying not to start a conversation.
"I believe that the solar system is a particle" Captain Scurvy said.
I sighed and turned back around.
"We have received a reading from outer space from the telekinetic-magnetic: microvision camera1476 locator which suggests that the solar system is approximately the size of a particle in proportion to the size of the universe." He said, alarmed as he jumped over his table and skipped a few paces closer.
I stayed silent and tried to look excited. I wondered, how on earth did he think of another theory which he couldn't back up. Captain Scurvy's telekinetic-magnetic: microvision camera1476 locator? Really? It was made in 2040 by a kid who wanted to take pictures of inside his dog without harming it. Today, in the year 2102, 62 years later, Captain Scurvy is sending this machine into space and is using it to measure the universe! Captain Scurvy had a theory, a theory that no one would never think of.
"Well, if you believe it is true how are you going to propose this to NASA?" I said politely
"I am going to take my idea to the MSC (Mars Science Corporation) competition next week." He said sternly.
I stood still with my mouth wide open like a thirsty chicken.
"It's such a great idea isn't it!" he said.
I think to myself, it's horrible and an awful idea, what about the project almost all your employees are working on.
"I thought we were going to be designing the x-ray which only sees a virus and instantly. . ." I say before I am interrupted by a buzzing noise. BUZZzz BUZZzz BUZZzz BUZZzz! It's the iPhone X78+ Pro on my forearm.
"Hello?" I say.
Then giving a wave and smile goodbye to Captain Scurvy, I exit the room urgently, glad to find an excuse to leave.
"Thanks, Janelle" I say to the other end of the phone. Janelle has saved me from Captain Scurvy's blabber.
"All good, Marie, saw you from my desk suffering" Janelle says. I look up and see her in the building across from me waving frantically out the window from behind her small office desk. "Also, could you drop by the lab? Someone wants to see you, I'd thought I'd let you know." Janelle asks.
"Okay, see you" Janelle replies.
I hang up and make my way towards the lab. I wonder who it is?
This year has been my 5th year at the Scurvy Scientist Testing Facility. We are in Vicenza, Italy by the shore of the sunken city of Venice. This year we are studying the dramatic change in water level in 2026 to 2031. The water has encroached 73km in 5 years. The underwater city of Venice used to be above water. These days it's more like a tomb in an ancient myth.
"Marie!" a familiar voice yells in delight!
I snap out of my thoughts and lift my head to see who it is.
Please comment and like! :)
