The cops made their way quickly to the scene. Before she left, Stephanie gave Rachel a reassuring smile and hug, and quickly drove away to avoid being asked questions by her colleagues.
Word had gotten out that a rogue officer is carrying a dangerous criminal around. Everyone was ordered to arrest the both of them on site.
Stephanie sighed as she slowed down to a cruise and glanced over at William who was humming an old sounding tune next to her. His wound wasn't bleeding as much and he seemed to have a smile on his face. Stephanie felt a pang of guilt through her chest and she turned back to the road, taking the long road again.
Through that guilt her head was swirling with many questions. Her brows furrowed absentmindedly as she turned down the wrong road before making a quick U-turn.
"It would seem that you are nagging with questions, correct?" William asked after a while, reading her mind and actions once again.
Without even hesitating Stephanie spoke quickly," How are you alive? I shot you! In the chest!! And how are you not old. Do you not age or something? And what's up with your skin? And your eyes? Are you a zombie? What the hell is wrong with you?!"
She stopped to catch her breath. William looked at her with a bored expression. "Are you finished?" he asked and raised an eyebrow.
Stephanie nodded, her ears burning from embarrassment from the way she spoke so hastily, and she muttered a soft "sorry". William nodded and looked out the window, readying for a tragic monologue when he suddenly jumped and pressed his face against the window to look further down the road.
"Look, detective," he said and smiled excitedly. "It's Chipootlet."
"Chipotle," Stephanie corrected as she stopped by a red light.
"May we stop there? I'm starved."
"We can eat once I take you to a hospital."
"I'll be quite fine, honestly. I'm not dead, am I? Besides, aren't your police mates out to get us? Taking me to a hospital is probably the most dumbest thing you could possibly do right now."
Stephanie kept quiet and ignored his insults, and gave in. He was right after all. Stephanie's 24 hours were up. The whole police force will be on her tail, tracking her every move. That, and what was she going to say to the doctors?
Hey, I shot this guy by accident and he's still alive. Can you stitch him up? Also, he's a mass murderer I apparently broke out of jail, so if the police call or anything, don't tell them we're here. She snorted softly at the thought and slowly parked her car right outside of the front doors of Chipotle. William practically jumped out of the car and into the restaurant.
Stephanie closed her door, about to lock the car, when she suddenly began hearing screams and screeching chairs from inside the restaurant. Soon a whole crowd was running out in fear.
As soon as the crowd dispersed Stephanie ran inside and found William standing alone in the building with a sad frown as he wiped his blood stained hand and waistcoat with a tissue. It didn't do much for his clothes. They were a mess.
"The service in this restaurant is awful," he said and dumped the dirty tissue in a nearby bin. "All the staff ran out as soon as they laid eyes on me, and the customers just followed. How completely, and utterly rude! One star rating. No, not even! Half a star."
Stephanie rolled her eyes to his obliviousness and spotted a worker hiding behind the counter with a phone in her hand, shaking in fear. She must've called the police. Great. Now this place will be swimming with officers. Take out it is. She slowly walked towards her.
