Road Pains

Tears streaked down my face as I ran.  Each tear burned into my skin, leaving a mark and a memory of what I was., I could taste the tangy salt with every drop from my cheeks.  All I could think of was running and not stopping, running and not stopping, running and not stopping...

I woke abrupty from a horrible sleep, thrashing my arms and legs around as i felt my surroundings.  My back ached, and I felt something squishy underneath my hands.  I was in desperate pain too.  I could tell my face and hands had been gashed by something, and both my legs and arms were bruised.

As the blur cleared from my weary eyes, I scanned around me.  I had fallen asleep in a forest by the side of the road.  Wonderful.

As it turns out, I deduced that I had collapsed from exhaustion whilst running on adrenaline.  Once that was gone, I passed out.  It was just my luck that I had fallen down into a slight ditch by the road, and in my tumble I had gashed my hands and face on various tree branches.  The blood was still fairly fresh, as if I had been bleeding out all night.  How long had I slept?  And truthfully, I had no idea where I was.

I stood up but immediately collapsed into the squishy stuff that of course turned out to be mud.  Go figure.  If I had to land in anything, it had to be mud.  I assesed the poor conditions of my legs.  It felt like one was sprained, and they both just ached too much for me to deal with right now.  So, I decided to sit and wait.  Maybe if I felt a little better, I could walk then.
