Chapter 1

I watch the rain pour down like the night my dad died ten years from today. He died in a car accident when I was seven. The only thing I regret is that I was angry with him that night,  and didn't say goodbye to him before he left. I walk down the stairs from my bedroom,  into the living room and sit down on my favorites red recliner.  Me and my dad used to sit on it together all the file when I was a child. "What do you want for dinner,  Dove?" My mother asks me. "I'm not hungry, " I reply,  even though I'm quite hungry,  I just don't feel like eating tonight. "You can't be sad forever,  Dove. I will cook your favorite dinner tonight,  my special spaghetti. "  Mom's spaghetti is always the best,  she puts Italian sausage, and pepperoni in it,  instead of hamburger. "Fine. " I say,  even though I'm quite grateful.  When we eat dinner,  my mom keeps trying to start a conservation,  but I don't feel like talking right now.  The spaghetti tastes better than ever,  maybe because I skipped lunch today,  and am very hungry.  After dinner,  I go up to my bedroom.  I look into my mirror and think of how much I look like my dad.  Small mouth,  yet a slightly larger nose. But yet I have my mother's green eyes,  and straight,  dark blonde hair,  with a couple of lighter blonde steaks.

I look at my clock,  and it's already eleven forty five. I better go to bed soon,  or I will be very tired in the morning.  I couldn't sleep that night.  Maybe because the pouring rain, and loud thunder. Or maybe because the greater pour of memories.  Memories of my father and I racing through my head.  I get dressed in my regular clothes style,  blue jeans,  and a green shirt, to match my eyes. I've never tried to be 'the prettiest girl'. I kind of lay low. I think that's what Travis likes about me. Travis.  We've been friends since kindergarten.  We are practically inseparable. We grew up together,  and we are neighbors. "Dove, come eat breakfast, then get on the bus,  I'm almost late for work!" Mother yells up the stairs. "Coming mom! "I yell back.  When i get down stairs, my mom has made a big meal of waffles,  bacon, sausage,  and eggs. I look over, and Travis is there.  My heart starts pounding. "Mom,  why are Travis,  and Brenda (his mom) here?" I ask nervously. "Don't be rude,  honey,  I invited them over for breakfast. "  I shrug,  and go sit by Travis. All of a sudden, I don't feel good.  My heart starts pounding, and I feel as though I will barf. "Mom,  can I go up to my room,  I'm not feeling the best right now." I ask. "Don't be rude, you can stay down here. " "But mom! " I yell back. "Dove Mariah Robinson!  You will stay down here, and eat! " "Fine." I finally agree. Then,  the pain in my head is so piercing,  I feel like screaming.  The next thing I know,  is that I'm on the floor, and everything goes black.
