Newt and I had left the, what I now know is called the homestead, him showing me as much as he can before Alby had to come and do the rest. Alby wasn't as nice as Newt and didn't sugarcoat the glade. He told me about the maze, and the walls. He also told me about grievers that he'd be showing me soon.

The words grievers freaked me out enough, but I soon forgot about it when almost everyone came up to introduce themselves. I met the medjacks, a boy named Winston, a boy named Zeke, I met some runners, Ben sticking in my head.

I met pretty much everyone, but I didn't remember all their names of course. I couldn't even remember my own name, so i didn't even bother remembering all of theirs.

As the sun began to set, I sat resting against a tree staring at the oversized walls. The runners had just came back, heading into the woods. I carefully looked around the area, before I pushed myself up heading towards the walls.

Alby had explained to me that they moved, and how we weren't allowed inside the maze. But I just wanted to see them up close.

"Greenie!" Someone yelled across the field. I huffed, slightly irritated, as I turned to look at the boy I recognized as Ben. He ran up to me, standing in front, his face still covered in sweat and dirt.

"Where do you think you're going?"

"No where. I-I just wanted to look." I said quickly, stepping back from the boy.

"Trust me, you don't want to look at anything inside those walls right now. Especially since it's going to be dark soon." He said calmly. "Have they told you about grievers yet?"

"Kind of." I answered

"And you still want to go in there?" He questioned pointing to the maze. I looked back at it, then back at the boy. I nodded sheepishly, looking down afterwards.

"I just want to leave this place."

"Trust me, we all do."

---

The big walls shut, the sun going down soon after. Instead of the place going dark like I thought it would,
small lights in these weird containers were almost everywhere. A big fire in the middle of all the commotion of the gladers.

The log underneath me, was actually getting really uncomfortable, so I carefully slid down, sitting on the hard ground.

Pulling me legs up to my chest, and wrapping my arms around them, I rested my head on my knees. I let my eyes wander around the glade, feeling a pinch behind them after awhile. I squeezed them shut, determined not to cry in front of any of the boys here.

"So how was your first day greenie." the boy I easily recognized as Minho said sitting next to me. I turned my head to face him, studying his face before answering him.

"It could have been worse."

"Really? Do you remember anything that could make it worse?" He asked a small smile appearing on his face.

"No, I just didn't know what else to say. I didn't do anything all day." I lifted my head off my knees.

"Sounds fun."

"Totally it was super fun." I said sarcastically stretching my legs out now.

"No I'm serious. One day I would really like to do nothing. I'm always in the maze, running. For once I just want to stay home."

"Home?" I questioned, "I haven't heard anyone call this place home."

"Well, if you've been here since the beginning, you would consider this your home too." He said softly, a sad essence layered into his tone of voice.

"Why wouldn't you want to be out in the Maze?" I asked softly, scared he might sound even sadder this time. He opened his mouth once again, but closed it went Newt sat down on the other side of me.

The sad expression on Minho's face disappeared, replaced by a smile, that didn't look genuine at all.

"What are you two talking about?" Newt questioned, groaning softly as he fixed his injured leg so it was laid out in front of him.

I opened my mouth to respond honestly, but Minho beat me to it.

"I was shamelessly flirting with her. I think it was working." He said with a chuckle. Newt shook his head before laughing. I turned to Minho, who lost the smirk on his face, his eyes sad once again. He shook his head quickly, and mouthed "Don't tell him." I looked back at Newt, who had turned his head when I turned mine. He smiled completely unaware about Minho's feelings.

"How was your day greenbean?"
