It was morning and Gloria didn't like it. She didn't have a reason for not liking it she just had a feeling that something was going to happen that day that wouldn't be good. She sighed, it was hard being her ( at least to her it was ) sure being princess was great and everything but it was not only boring, but tiring, basically she was miserable. She stretched slowly and yawned, she looked at her clock and froze. No this couldn't be happening, but it was! She galloped down the hallway without even stopping to brush her mane. She sped down the hall and into the dining room and slowed to a stop. The look on her parents faces told her everything she needed to know. She bowed her head.

"I'm sorry."

The words came out much louder than she meant and she bit her lip as her parents glared down at her even harder.

"You are late," said her mother dryly.

"Again." finished her father even more dryly.

Her parents stared daggers at her for what seemed like a celestial age, but she stared back, defiant of the deed her parents were tired of seeing done almost everyday.
"Gloria," her mother said sighing "If you want to be queen someday at least be on time for breakfast!"
"Ok," she said quietly as her parents gaze bore into her.
"Good." her mother said suddenly smiling.
Gloria breathed a sigh of relief.
Thank the Eliantians I got out of this one!
She trotted over to the long, ornate, wooden dining table. Pulling out a chair she clambered up and sat down with her muzzle barely above the rim of the table. Her father, King Aura, smiled at her, his dark blue eyes looked tired as they always did, but the familiar twinkle was still present.
Aura wasn't El Turnian. He was from the Jewel Empire a kingdom northwest of Trottingham. He had been the best of his school and had won a spot in the group of ponies chosen to go to the annual meeting of the kingdoms that happened every hundred years ( yes ponies live a long time, especially alicorns ). That's when he met Gloria's mother. They became friends and sent letters to each other. Then Aura joined the Empirian guard and risked everything to meet Gleaming Glory in secret. When King Emerald found out about Aura's meetings, he was banished ( the Jewel Empire and El Turnia had been enemies ever since the Jewel Empire joined sides with the Dragonlands during The Dragon Wars centuries ago ) and came to live with her mother.
"Gloria," Gleaming Glory addressed her daughter and Gloria jumped. "Did you do your algebra homework?"
Gloria stiffened, remembering what had happened yesterday.
"Uuuuuuuuuuummm." she said awkwardly.
A loud snort sounded from the dining room door.
"Ha!"
Gloria turned her head around. Ex Queen Sunbeam stood in the entry. Her yellow mane that was striped white with age was in a bun by her ears. Her dark yellow coat was ruffled as if she'd just got out of bed and she was levitating a newspaper in front of her face, her muzzle nearly pressed against the pages.
"Ah, hello mother." Queen Gleaming Glory said coldly, her smile fading.
"Hello yourself!" Sunbeam shot back.
Aura coughed awkwardly and fixed his gaze upon his plate. Gloria's grandmother didn't have the best relationship with her daughter. She had been queen before Gloria's mother ( a yellow alicorn with a rainbow mane ) and her reign was said to be the brightest in the history of El Turnia. It had been her who brought the kingdom out of the dark age, the age in which her mother ( Queen Lamia ) had plunged it into. Queen Lamia was the one who created the pony race, she had been given as a gift from the Elintians ( the gods ). She created El Turnia and gave the Unicorns their magic, the Pegasi their wings, and the Earth Ponies their strength. But then she had found the stone of Almardia, it had given her enough power to pull cities out of the ground and create entire species within a day. But the more she used it the more it took control of her, until one day it drove her insane. She had almost destroyed everything and everyone from El Turnia to the Dragon lands, when Sunbeam stopped her. She banished Lamia to the darkest place in all of creation.
The Shadow realm was a dark void of pain and fire. It raged and destroyed but it couldn't escape from its prison, the Shadow realm was a living, breathing mass of unmasked evil. The insane Lamia and all her power was trapped there forever, probably waiting and scheming for someone to set them free. Gloria rolled her eyes, her history lessons were paying off after all.
"So!" said Sunbeam. "What happened to that homework of yours, Gloria?"
Gloria gulped.
"I was going to do it, but I-I might have turned it into a paper airplane..... andaccidentallyflownitoutthewindow!" Gloria said, rushing the last part
"WHAT!?" yelled her mother.
"Good job, squirt!" said Sunbeam still not taking her eyes off the paper.
"GOOD JOB??? GOOD JOB????!!!!!!" shrieked Gleaming Glory.
Aura groaned and closed his eyes.
"WHAT!?" Sunbeam yelled back her temper rising. "Algebra is useless!"
Gleaming Glory slammed her hoof on the table rattling the plates.
"Well sorry for being INVESTED IN MY DAUGHTER'S EDUCATION!" she yelled at her mother. "What would you have had her do with it then?"
Sunbeam lowered the newspaper to show her face.
"Blow it up."
Gleaming Glory laughed hysterically for a minute and Aura bit his lip obviously not eager to try and clear this up.
"You are SUCH a bad influence, mom!" she snarled. "I want Gloria to have a good education while you would tell her to learn how to use pyrotechnics and vandalize family portraits!"
Sunbeam laughed.
"I want to argue with you buuuuuut I can't deny that I would like to tell her to destroy that portrait of your father. His face was stupid and I don't want to see it anymore." Sunbeam shuddered.
Gloria knew something happened to her grandfather but she didn't know anything about it. All she had discovered by Sunbeam's angry rants was that he had been awful and Sunbeam still hated him.
Gleaming Glory sighed. "I'm done with argument let's just eat."

As Gloria ate she recited her daily schedule in her head:

8:30, breakfast

9:00, end breakfast

9:15, daily royal cabinet meeting

10:00, end meeting, history class

11:00, lunch

11:30, math and other studies

5:00, done with studies, secretly nap instead of doing homework

6:00, dinner

7:00, do homework

8:00, late night snack

9:00, bed

It was the same as everyday, boring and simple, nothing extra, nothing more.

Her flame colored hair ( red, orange, and yellow ) swayed in the breeze as Gloria stared out at the city of Trottingham. It was evening now and everypony was heading of to their homes and their dinners and families. She could see to foals playing and laughing together without a care in the world just two friends having the time of their lives, friends; friends were the only thing Gloria didn't have, whenever she tried to talk to another foal they bowed the heads respectfully. All she wanted was a friend, someone who she told all her secrets to, someone who understood her and liked her and didn't blame her for being a bit late to breakfast. But that would never happen, it seemed that as long as you were royal ponies were scared, frightened of you because you could do anything to the, you could destroy their homes their families with just a few words. She now new the curse of being higher than everypony, you were alone. But what Gloria didn't now is that she wouldn't be alone for much longer.
