Author's note!
Hey! I just wanted to give y'all some background for this story. The character, Nimi Kito, has a powerful Quirk. It allows her to get new Quirks when the need arises. If I'm writing a oneshot with an OC, I'll use her. This is in the second year.
That's all! Now onto the story!
~
I wandered the halls of UA, not really planning on going anywhere anytime soon.
"Kito!" Mina shouted, waving a pink hand in the air. I smiled and waved back. "Come on! We're going out now!"
"Where?" I asked, letting her grab my wrist and drag me out of the school campus.
"Anywhere!" The alien-like girl glanced back with a huge grin on her face. "You're too slowww!" Mina laughed.
"Would you rather I go fast?" I quirked a brow and she nodded ecstatically. "Then climb onto my back." She obeys and I activate one of the more fun Quirks I'd gotten. It works like Iida's engines, but without engines. It's a lightning type Quirk and Denki was so happy he wasn't the only one in our class with lightning. Granted, I can use mine better, but it made him happy all the same.
We ended up at a park where we meandered until I found a little bird. I had always been good with animals so I sat there until it came to me. But when I set my hand on it to pet it, it disappeared.
"What was that?" Mina asked, eyes wide.
"I... don't know."
"Well, let's keep going." She grabbed my wrist again and dragged me out of the park. We went through the streets, window-shopping, when I saw a ragged old dog walking alone through the streets.
"You touch it first. Make sure it's real."
"Alright." Mina began petting the dog and flashed me a grin. "It's real."
"Good." I smiled and went to pet the dog when it, too, vanished. "But-"
"I bet it's a new Quirk!" I could see her cheerful tone and smile were forced and grimaced.
"You don't have to fake happiness for me. I get it. This Quirk is scary."
"Alright, well, see that bird there?"
"The dying one?"
"Yeah! Go touch it with only a couple of your fingers! See if that changes anything!"
"Alright..."
I admit, I was rather suspicious, at least at first, but I tried and saw that the bird only disappeared when I put my whole hand against it. "See? I toldya!"
"Yeah, whatever. So what'll we do?"
"Get you fingerless gloves! They'll look so cute!"
"Whatever you say." I let Mina drag me around for the rest of the day, buying me not only the gloves, and several of them, but multiple outfits to go with each one. "You didn't have to get so much..." I sighed as we walked back to UA.
"'Course I did!" She laughed. "We're friends, right?"
"I suppose..." I did my best to sound annoyed but that façade faded when Denki showed up. "Hey, Denki!"
"Nimi!" He ran up to me and gave me a hug. "How're you doing?"
"Fine enough." I smiled. "Got a new Quirk."
"Oh really? What is it?"
"Dissolving living creatures."
"What? Uh..."
"I won't hurt you. See?" I held up my hand and wiggled my fingers. "These gloves'll stop it."
"Ah." He smiled and wrapped his arms around me. "You know, this is almost as cool as your speed Quirk."
"Almost?" I giggled. "That's just cause it's lightning. You always did have a fascination with lightning."
Denki and I have been friends for most of my life, now, we are a bit more than that. But we do our best not to show too much of that to our classmates. If they don't know about Denki's sneaking out every night to go to my room, well, they don't need to.
"I guess that's true." Denki smiled. "Especially yours..." He murmured into my ear.
"Of course." I laughed, pulling away. I shoot him a pointed glare and brush my blond hair out of my face. "Now, I do believe I must reorganize my whole wardrobe." I walked over to Mina who nodded and handed me a few bags. Denki offered to help and Mina got this smirk on her face I really didn't like. But she let him help so I can't really do anything.
"Now, what's all this about the new Quirk? Can you explain to me better?"
"Yeah. So, you know that one Quirk of mine that gives me others?" Denki nodded. "Well, now it gave me a disintegration Quirk. It appears, I can only disintegrate living things. And, it only dissolves if my whole hand touches the living creature."
"So that's the purpose of the gloves." I just nodded and began putting away the new clothes. "I really love you." He said after he wrapped his arms around me. "You know that, right?"
"Yeah. I love you too." The words felt foreign on my tongue even as I spoke them.
My life was never an easy one, my mother died giving birth and my father died of drug abuse when I was ten. Thankfully, at that point I already had friends who could help me, but these things led to me growing up too fast. Saying 'I love you' to my father was hard to even imagine, he was only ever high, drunk, gone or passed out. When he died, I felt no remorse and simply asked my friends for help. After all this time, after Denki and I have dated for over a year, it's still strange to hear someone say 'I love you' and even stranger to say it back.
