Chapter 1 - Green-eyed Stranger

I drove to a party with my sister Alisson and Quinn after our first week as college undergrads. We had gotten lucky that the three of us managed to get into the same university with great scholarships. We've been inseparable since I came to live with Alisson's parents when I was 8 years old and Quinn moved to school in the same year. We joked that it was Alisson who had gotten the three of us together since she was the one who found me in the woods on that summer morning 10 years ago and brought me to her parents who, later on, adopted me. Later that summer, she also found Quin on the first day of school, declaring that she loved her doll and could see we were all going to be great friends, and, like many things in life, she was right about it. So, here we are now, 10 years later, sharing a dorm room and getting ready for the first time in what seemed like forever to go to different classes. Even though we were great friends, our personalities couldn't be more different, as well as the professions we were hoping to follow. Quinn wanted to be an investor and was taking finance with entrepreneurship, while I wanted to follow into my adoptive mother footsteps and become a physician and, last but not least, Alisson was the artsy counterpart to our seriousness and was taking fashion design.

As Alisson applied her lip gloss and Quin looked nervously through the window, I couldn't help but ask my sister.

-So, we're really going to a party, right?

-No, genius, it's the movies. - Alisson said, giving me her trademark sass. - Of course it's a party, what else would it be?

-Well, last time you said we were going to a party it was that weird group date... - Quinn intervened up from the back, trailing off as she saw the look Alisson throwed her way.

-Geez, it was only one time, and it was not like it was an orgy or anything - She grumbled. To be fair, that had been the most weird-ass date I'd ever gone in my entire life, not that I'd gone to many. The whole dating thing-y was more Alisson's scene than mine or Quinn's and, according to my blonde sister, that's the reason she forced us to go on that date. Needless to say, that was the last time we let her set us up on a blind date. - I promise to you two that this is an actual party. It's in Simon's frat house. Speaking of Simon, I think he's totally into you, Liv. - Aly said, wiggling her eyebrows at me. I rolled my eyes at her antics. Like I said before, my sister and I are like night and day and whilst she sees boys as a distraction, I rather dance and hang out with her and Quinn as a method to let loose. That was one of the only reasons I wanted to go to this party, so I could dance and celebrate a successful week of study.

When we got to the party, Alisson quickly hopped out, being followed swiftly by Quinn and I. We were greeted by a boy named Jason, who I had never seen before, but seemed to know Aly quite well.

-Hey there, I'm Jason. - He said, offering me his hand while his arms sneaked across my sister's waist. I raised my eyebrows and slowly shook his hand. Behind me Quinn muffled her giggles behind her hand before standing her hand to shake his as well. I could almost hear her thoughts: poor guy, didn't know what he was getting into. It's always fun to watch people underestimate my sisters, thinking that because she's pretty and got the whole doe-eye thing going on she's an easy target. Little did they know that she's quite literally a genius and doesn't get attached easily. Jason probably thought he was going to break my sister's heart, but I can guarantee it'll be the other way around.

After the little encounter, Quinn and I went inside while Alisson stayed up front with Jason. Once we got to the living room, we realised the place was packed. The smell of sweat and other things I didn't even want to know what it was hit my nose, that scrunched up before I could quickly school my features into something more neutral. You see, I'm a werewolf, and we have a heightened sense of smell, which could sometimes suck when I was at a party or out on a date. Have you ever been on a date with someone that smells like garlic? That's awful, right? Well, imagined that multiplied by a 100. Not cool at all. Fortunately, with time, I've learned how to block out smells from parties and huge gatherings, making it even enjoyable. One thing I refused, though, was to go out with someone smelly. A girl has to have some standards, after all. Upon seeing my face, Quinn made a sympathetic face. Even though she was human, she knew about the supernatural and me, since her mom was a doctor for the supernatural creatures, as we couldn't just show up at some random human hospital without spoiling our supernatural secret, something humans weren't aware of. I got lucky when i was adopted that my adoptive family was also supernatural (my adoptive mom and Alisson are psychics) and I didn't have to hide my nature from them.

I was so lost in thoughts, I didn't even realise the song had changed and our favorite song to dance to, On The Floor by J-Lo, was blasting on the makeshift dance floor. I only realised it when Quinn pulled me towards the writhing bodies on the floor and Alisson suddenly popped up from out of thin air. After that, the three of us just got lost on the music, moving our bodies in sync with the rhythm of the song. Dancing was absolutely my favorite thing to do in the world. It was the only way I knew how to destress and let go of everything that was worrying me. It had been that way ever since mom took me to the dance studio in our little town for the first time when I was 8 as a way to help me cope with my past. Ever since that sunny morning when I found out about one of my passions, I made it my personal goal to always dance when I had the chance. So, that's what I did on that evening, throwing back my head, letting the music guide my body until I was gasping for air and had to leave the house for some fresh air.

Stepping outside, I looked at the woods in front of the back porch, still feeling the adrenaline pump through my veins. The night was gorgeous, with the moon almost full, beaconing me to take a stroll in the forest in front of me. It was almost like there was something pulling me towards it's darkness, that may seem creepy to some, but was welcoming to me. Not one to ignore my gut, I stepped outside the porch and followed a path that I'd never walked before, but seemed to know like the back of my hand. I only stopped once I saw a tall man with broad shoulders who's back was turned to me. Inhaling deeply, I could tell he was a werewolf, just as I was and, even though I knew there should be red flags getting raised on my mind by being alone with a stranger on the middle of a forest, miles away from people, there was something, almost like a whisper in the back of my mind, that told me I could trust him. Following that line of thought, I purposely stepped on a twig, that cracked under my weight and made the stranger turn towards me. I was met with deep, forest green eyes and dark hair. His brows went down on a scowl as he looked at me.

-Who the hell are you and what are you doing in my property? - The green-eyed stranger growled at me.
