I reach the fourth floor and not a voice to be heard, it’s like no one lives on this floor at all, which gives me the creeps but I think I’d prefer being alone than with a bunch of girls screaming on top of their voices all the time. I step out of the lift and make my way to the boards with directions that I see in front of me.

The corridor has rooms on either side of the lift; the floor is white tiled with golden small lights on top which makes the floor shine. The lights are automatic which means they switch on only when someone is in the corridor, nice way of saving electricity huh?

I read the white board in front me which says 410-430 with a left side arrow and 431-450 with an arrow facing the right side. My suitcase trailing behind me I walk towards the right hand side of the corridor reading the flat numbers embossed in golden on the brown door. I reach 435 and 436 is on the opposite side.

The door is closed and I turn the handle hoping that it opens and that I don’t have to go all the way back to Mrs. Ambers for a key or something, which will leave me stranded outside the entrance of the dorms till someone comes again.

As if luck was finally in my favor, the door opens and to my surprise, there’s no sign of a roommate. The room is small but cozy. I love how a small room feels when I’m the only one living in it, there’s less to clean and more room for my stuff. The room has black tiles and is a very light shade of yellow for the wall paint. It has a balcony like all the other rooms and mine faces the huge ground that was hell for me just a few moments back.

There are two beds in the room separated by a tiny drawer with a lamp on it both in the middle its headrest touching the right side wall. There’s a dresser right next to the bathroom and built in closets on the left side walls. This one bedroom is going to be my life for the next 3 years and I’m going to have to live with it. Luckily, there’s a bathroom right inside my room!

I take the bed that’s close to the balcony than the bathroom because I like the sunrays falling on my face in the morning. I open my suitcase and first take out a blue bed sheet to cover my small bed, put a blue pillowcase on the pillow and a blanket. I then unpack the rest of my suitcase and neatly fold the clothes and hang my dresses in one side of the closet.

I’m assuming there’s going to be someone else living with me if not hell it’s going to be a lonely journey!

I switch my laptop on, go the university's website, put in my password and open my account to see what the schedule is going to be like. My classes don’t start till like next week which is four days from now, so I have time to settle in till then. The university has organized an orientation for all freshmen tomorrow morning, which I’ll be attending.

I check my phone to see the time and its 3:30pm only.

“Wow, time’s going pretty slow.” I tell myself. So I decide to call my aunt and let her know I’ve reached.

“Sup Hilda! How you doing?” I scream on top of my voice because I’m that excited.

“Have you reached safely? How’s the dorm room? And most importantly how are the people?” She talks so fast.

“Yes I reached safely, the dorm room is amazing and I don’t have a roommate! And the people so far so ehhh” I say and climb out of my bed to walk towards the balcony. I open the door and step out to take in the view.

“What the hell does ehhh mean?” She’s screaming because she thinks I’m on the other end of the world and I can’t hear her.

“Ehhh means okay, not bad, not good” As I’m speaking I turn around towards the boys block and my eyes immediately dart towards a balcony through which I can see two people having sex.

“OH MY GOOD LORD” I almost drop my phone.

“Hilda, I’ve got to call you back. I just saw two people doing it” I laugh hysterically.

“And you’re going to watch the show?” She says and I cut the phone on her face because damn this is weird!

To my surprise, I know the guy!

I can literally see Justin having it good while the girl has kneeled down in front of him. Before someone sees me looking at them or they see me looking at them I head back inside.

For the rest of the night, I just sit on my bed and watch Friends because let’s face it I have literally nothing better to do.

My alarm clock buzzes to life at 8am sharp and I get up. I switch off the laptop which has Joey paused at the scene where he’s getting a haircut from Phoebe. I grab my toothbrush from the nightstand and head to the bathroom. The water is cold against my face and I step into the shower to have a quick hot steamy bath. The water relaxes my muscles and I step out with a towel wrapped around my body.

“I’m in the mood for a dress today.” I tell myself, so I go through my dresses and pick out a turquoise one. I put on the dress and leave my hair down which I had tied in a bun. The dress is short, tight till my waist and flows after that. It’s knee length and made of satin flowy material.

By the time I’m done with everything its 8:30, I take my cell phone and head out of the room. I walk my way towards the lift and still dead silence! There’s literally no one on this floor or what?

I walk out of the lift and make my way to the entrance; I can see girls and guys moving about. There’s a couple on the side making out and there are guys on the other side checking out a few girls, just the usual I guess. I'm never going to be one of them because let's face it, it's me! I shake my head to get rid of those ugly thoughts and head out and walk my way to the other side of ground.

As soon as I reach the hall for the orientation, the seats are already full. I see a seat, it’s next to Justin and I don’t think I have a choice.

I walk towards him, give him a small smile which he completely ignores because obviously who would want to smile back at a freak like me.

“I’m sorry this seat is taken” he says and puts his hand on the seat. He then smirks at his friends and fist bumps one of them in front of me.

“Umm okay” I say while tucking my hair behind my ear and move to the side of the room, where I can stand and see the presentation.
