Darkness, never ending, infinite, an ongoing void empty of all life and emotion; but in the shadow, far from the light of day, starving and angry lay an alicorn. She sat feeling her power growing stronger and stronger as she waited in the depths of this silent realm. The alicorn had been waiting and waiting for the day her power would reach its fullest, the day when she would be free. Her horn glowed and it's light shone on the amber stone that hung around her neck, the stone that drove her mad the stone she could never take off. She'd tried everyday for 3,000 years but it didn't come off it never would. As the light grew stronger so did the alicorn, she relished in the feeling of her returning strength, slowly she stood, her power was growing, expanding, she was almost free! The alicorn laughed a cold high pitched laugh. Her voice cracked she hadn't used it in so long, it was strange hearing it again after all this time. But she kept on laughing. Then her power grew so bright she was lost in the glow. And when the light faded she was gone. Gloria awoke. Her eyes flew open and she gasped, shakily, she got slowly out of bed and walked over to her mirror, there were dark circles under her eyes and her mane was a mess. She was exhausted, but whenever she closed her eyes she saw the alicorn, skinny and mangy and those eye- Gloria shuddered at the thought of the blank eyes and dilated pupils. She was achingly familiar, how? Gloria didn't know. But she knew who ever it was, was very very dangerous and was coming for her.
Several days had passed since Gloria's nightmare. And on the fifth day she awoke to find that her mother was shaking her awake and telling her to get up.
"What is it?" mumbled Gloria, still half asleep, she sat up rubbing her eyes.
"The king and queen of the Jewel Empire are coming to Trottingham today and their bringing their daughter!" her mother said sounding panicked.
"Soooooooo?" Gloria asked confused, mostly because she just woke up and hadn't entirely grasped the situation;
"So, you have to get ready, quickly, before they get here!" her mother said getting even more panicked.
"Why are they coming in the first place?" asked Gloria quizzically.
"To hold a meeting!"said her mother "Which is happening in half an hour!"
"Oh.... oh!!" Gloria jumped out of bed as she realized what was happening. She brushed her mane and put on the miniature crown that had been made for her when she was old enough to become a princess. It fitted her perfectly and was studded with flaming rubies ( figuratively flaming not literally flaming, if they were her head would be on fire and that would be pretty dumb).
After several long hours it was time to meet their distinguished guests, they waited by the castle gates for what seemed like a split second to Gloria before the most fanciest, most decorated carriage Gloria had ever seen rolled around the corner. Gloria stared, gaping as the most magnificent looking ponies she had ever laid eyes upon stepped out of the carriage and looked around at the city. They weren't looking at it with looks of wonder as she had seen on the faces of many visitors before, instead the looked around with looks of boredom and least interest. Rolling her eyes she thought:
Of course they don't care, their city is literally made out of jewels, ours must look like the most uninteresting thing they've ever seen!
As she looked at the royals she could identify, King Emerald Who was about as tall as her father ( King Aura, an almost white but slightly blue unicorn with a mane the color of the night sky ) and gave you the same feeling that if you dared cross them they would pretty much murder you, which was very useful if you wanted somepony to do something. Queen Amethyst on the other hoof was very friendly and immediately went over to Gloria's mother and started talking to her as if they were old friends, her mane was fuchsia and purple and sparkled in the sunlight, her coat was violet like the color of the sky right before the sunset. Gloria marveled at how perfect the Jewel Ponies were, they talked perfectly, walked perfectly, looked perfectly, they were..... really not Gloria's style to be honest, she was more of a "who cares what other ponies think let's go rule my kingdom" type of pony and that was fine with her. Then Gloria's eyes landed on somepony else, a light violet alicorn about her age stepped out from behind the safety of the carriage doors.
