It's the last Friday for the school's fundraiser. The same thing we did last week is what we're doing today.
I'm standing here, in charge of changing the music when Louis walks in with Millie. I've got my head down, pretending that I was texting, when Louis comes up to me.
"So just so you know, I was really there with Toni as friends."
Oh, so we're still talking about this?
He stops talking as he shoves his hands in his pockets.
I shrug. "For all I know you texted her and begged to watch your game."
"I told you, we're just friends."
I change the song for the cake walk and Millie gets in the crowd.
"So are you and Toni back together?"
He lets out a rude tone. "Do you have any business with that?"
Again I shrug. "I knew you guys would get back together eventually."
He turns and walks away. But then he stops and looks back at me. "Is there something going on with you and Lucas?"
"Why do you care?" I scoff.
"Plus, he has a boyfriend."
At this, his nostrils flare. "I care because you were my girlfriend up until a few weeks ago and I don't even remember why we broke up."
"I don't want to talk about this anymore. I'm busy."
"So what? You're letting me go now?"
"I guess I am."
"We've broken up Louis. Meanwhile, when we were finally an actual thing, you kept yourself busy spending time with Toni―"
"We're just friends!"
"You had your arm around her. I saw it." I whisper-yell. "You were holding her with full sincerity!"
"I was comforting her. God! When will you ever believe me?"
I open my mouth to say something when Millie comes in with a cake on her plate.
He glances at the cake and it was mine; the caramel one.
"I don't want that one." He says firmly.
"This is the one you told me to get!" Millie complains.
"Well, I don't want it anymore."
And then they walked out.
