Chapter 1 - Why now?

March 14th 2025

"Miss, the papers for the deal with Thorn are on your desk."

"Thank you Amanda"

As I walked down the hall heading to my office I couldn't help but notice the pictures hanging on the wall. Of course I was the one who had the final word on these, but still, it didn't feel right.

"Amanda? "

"Yes miss ?"

"Would you please have Loreen give me a call as soon as possible?"

"Yess, I'm on it. "

"Thank you."  I said turning my back  and walking away for the second time.

When I got to my office, I sat at my desk and reviewed the contracts of my newest deal with William Thorn, one of the most famous writer of this generation. I quickly signed the last few papers and proceeded to open my laptop. Answered a few emails and closed it again not more than 20 minutes later.

I got up and walked to the door, made my way to the entrance of the office where Amanda was sitting answering calls and redirecting them. I waited for her to hang up before handing her the paperwork in my hand I had just signed

"This is going back to William Thorn's manager. You can mail them on your way out, thank you for your work today, great job. I'll see you on Monday. Good night."

"No problem at all, thank you, have a good night too. "

I watched her quickly gather her things before heading to the elevators door.

Like I did with Amanda, I went looking for Josh, my newly hired editor. I must say, he has done nothing but impress me so far.

"Hi Josh, it's 5:30 already, the day is done, keep up your good work and I might think about keeping you around. Have a good night."

"I will miss, you too."

I gently smiled and left again, looking for the few other people still working, wishing them a good night and thanking them for their hard work today.

7:30 pm

I grabbed my coat and my bag, closed the light to my office and walked to the elevator. As I was waiting for it to get to the right floor, I couldn't help but think about the text I received earlier. What does he want ? And why now?

The sound of the elevator got me out of my thoughts pretty quickly. I got in and clicked on the main floor button.

Main floor. Took only a few seconds to get there even though I was on the 34th.

Mickeal was waiting for me in front of my car

"Good evening miss, good day at work?"

He smiled softly at me while opening the door for me to get in.

I stopped a few seconds to answer

"Indeed it was. "

I smiled back and got into the car.

"So, did you answer his text?"

Oh I wish she would've not bring that up. So many memories came rushing back in my head... why after all this time would he want to see my again? Why after how he ended things?

I looked at her then looked away.

"I'm going to take that as a no."

And there I was, thinking about him again, like nothing had change.
