Kimmon entered the meeting room and bowed politely to his uncle, Suchart and few other board members, who were waiting for the meeting to commence. He avoided Tae’s gaze and took his seat near Suchart.
“Good morning, uncle”, Kimmon gave his halfhearted greeting.
“Good morning, Son”, Suchart patted Kimmon’s shoulder.
Kimmon’s jaws tightened at the touch. He was already at the edge of his sanity because of all the drama that was going around him, and Suchart addressing him as son and patting him fondly, infuriated Kimmon more. There was a time once, when Kimmon would feel over the cloud by a mere pat on the shoulder from his uncle. He used to feel so touched and grateful towards his uncle for treating him like his own son. But everything turned out to be fake. The love and care that he treasured so much all his life, were all lies. The words of comfort, which always boosted his confidence, were just sugar coated preaches to make him believe that he had a huge debt of gratitude towards Suchart and his family.
“How are your preparations coming along for the launch date?”, Suchart asked leaning towards Kimmon.
“I am all set for it, uncle. I am planning to announce it this Friday, after our contract renewal with the Kreepolrerks is done”, Kimmon answered in a whisper.
“Great!! The media will go frenzy over the double treat. We will buy majority of shares from Kreepolrerk industries and also have an individual launch of you. It has been a while since I was this excited about something”, Suchart said with a sly smile.
“Yes uncle”, Kimmon tried to maintain his usual polite tone.
“Can I have a look at the launch details? I am so curious to see how my dearest nephew had drafted his first solo entry”, Suchart asked with enthusiasm.
“Of course uncle. I will send you the papers this afternoon”, Kimmon said making a note of it with contempt. Of course, he wasn't going to send the real ones to Suchart.
“I am so proud of you, Kimmon”, Suchart chimed patting Kimmon’s shoulder again.
“Thank you, uncle. I hope I don’t disappoint you”, Kimmon replied, trying to give his usual grateful smile.
“Ahhh you won’t. I know you have the potential, Kimmon. You are a Khemmonta after all. It’s a shame that your father didn’t live long enough to see you succeeding in your life. Aish… how I wished my brother had at least half of what’s in Khemmonta’s blood, after all", Suchart said clicking his tongue.
Kimmon clenched his fists under the table and remained tightlipped.
“And yeah… before I forget, my elder son is coming back to the country next week”, Suchart said squinting his eyes at Kimmon.
Kimmon flinched at the news, but tried his best to put on a cheerful smile.
“Woww… that’s great news uncle. When is N’Frame coming back? I thought there is still a year more for him to complete his studies”, Kimmon asked faking interest.
Kimmon had been expecting this move from his uncle ever since he announced that he would have his own company, and just like he had expected, Suchart was bringing his son to take over the company. But Kimmon didn’t care anymore as long as his joint venture with Tae succeeds. He wasn’t interested in the money or family name. He was going to turn his back to everything and start afresh, no matter who stays or leaves him.
