Kings Landing
When the Mad King neared the end of his reign with Robert's Rebellion on approach and Tywin's Lannister men sacking the city, he ordered the caches of wildfire placed throughout the city to be ignited, attempting to burn his enemies along with Kings Landing. When Varys spoke against in fear of millions of innocents being drafted into the chaos of fire and blood, Aerys did nothing but smile, cackling a laugh that made Varys to only see a deranged man with a golden crown.
Aerys claimed his orders were what would save the city from traitors to the throne. Varys stepped towards his king in an attempt to have his decision reconsidered. Aerys flinched back, his eyes dawning fear and paranoia, his mind twisted to only see traitors as shadows floating to drag him out of his life. He ordered members of his Kingsguard to arrest Varys in an effort to kill him. Varys claimed otherwise, and though the nearby knights had heard right from the Spider, none said a word against their king as Varys was taken away.
Then, it was only the king and the young, noble knight, Ser Jaime Lannister, that were left in the throne room. Aerys cried out to ignite each and every cache of wildfire, to burn every single person, every traitor, that breathed in his city--to burn them all. His knight's only response was a dip of his head as if he were praying, praying for forgiveness in forsaking his vows. When he looked up, Jaime turned on his heel and approached the king, drawing his sword into Aerys' back as the old man tried to flee. He fell to the ground with blood spilled across the foot to the Iron throne, announcing the end of the Targaryen dynasty.
However, years later, when news came that the Mad King's two daughters had lived and were set to return to reclaim their family's throne, not one person out of a million was pleased. Lies and stories spoken by the right and wrong had instilled more fear than relief when Daenerys Stormborn was said to retake her throne and city, riding on one of the beasts the world had not seen in the last century.
They would forever see dragons as beasts, monsters made of fire and blood.
When dawn had lusted atop the Red Keep, the city was anything but peaceful, and the morning anything but calm.
Lannister men, Gold Cloaks and soldiers alike shouted out muffled instructions as men and women scurried away in panic. Children were frantically grabbed by their mothers and fathers as they bolted into nearby buildings, boarding the doors and windows with soldiers marching throughout the streets. Many were still trapped, screaming for help from within the walls of the Red Keep as a line of men prevented them from leaving.
The gates were beginning to close throughout the city with many people still beginning to be let in or out. Only when a Lannister guard looked up to see a golden hand did they allow the man through the city.
Whilst chaos fell throughout Kings Landing, the outside world was quiet, tension preventing any noise to be heard. The Golden Company had surrounded the outside walls with every man armed with horse, sword and dagger, one being the commander of the Golden Company. Strickland rode atop his white horse adorned in golden armor, facing unfamiliar, and dangerous faces off in the distance.
He saw an army of Unsullied, Northerners, Dothraki, Dornish, and others facing towards him, all opposing Her Majesty and the Seven Kingdoms. Yet he saw no dragon, not one just yet. He knew it would come, eventually. By the time it did the men would have dealt with it.
Strickland looked up and over his shoulder. The top of the walls was mounted with ballistae, archers and Scorpion bolts, all loaded and prepared for the inevitable. But without sharing a single word or glance at his men, Strickland knew it would not be enough for the Queen of Fire and Blood, the daughter of the infamous Mad King.
