Chapter 1

Rin Wolfe rubbed his dreary eyes and let out a soft yawn. He rubbed his sweaty palms on his bedding unwilling to move. The blaring alarm clock did not help his situation as he had placed it acrossed the room. Groaning, he pushed his warmed comforter off to the side allowing the cold to penetrate his arms and bare abdomin. Rin sleepily swung his legs over the edge of his bed and used all of his effort to stand. His sliding feet drug along the hard wood floor, he finally shuts off his alarm clock. He has a rather messy room and finds it easier to choose a daily outfit by just grabbing the first clothes that don't smell like he's worn them for a week straight. After finishing his morning routine of getting dressed, putting on deodorant, combing his hair and brushing his teeth, he stands on his porch to wait for his bus. Koda Astley, who happens to be his best friend, rides the same bus as Rin and waits on his porch for him since they have the same bus stop in front of his house. "Took you longer to get out here, if you didn't come sooner I thought I was going to have to drink these by myself," she teased as she produced two cans of Monster Energy drink from her hoodie pocket. Rin smirked as he plucked a can from her grip and opened it up. They began drinking their liquid heart attacks just as their bus pulled up. Their bus driver was a lonely man and tended to let his eyes wander as Koda got on the bus. She knew so she usually had Rin stand behind her as they went to their unofficial reserved seat at the back of the bus. "So how's your experimentation going?" Koda asked. Rin shrugged, took a long sip from his can, then grunted, "Not as great as I'd hoped. I mean I knew this was going to be a challenge, but this is much harder than I expected." She shrugged a bit sympathetically and teased, "So I'm guessing that means I won't be playing auntie any time soon." He chuckled and shook his head and added, "Who said you get to be the aunt?" Putting on her best mock "I'm so offended by that statement" face, she took his can from him and licked the entire thing before handing it back in triumph. Rin chuckled again and made a big show of how much it didn't bother him by licking it all over and taking a large sip.

Fred Gables soon got on the bus and sat across from Koda and Rin. Koda had forgotten to sit on the inside and rolled her eyes when Fred blew a kiss at her in a horrible attempt to be smooth. He had an obvious crush on her but she wants nothing to do with him. To make him jealous, Rin slid an arm behind her and wrapped it around her waist. Fred's face was turning so red it was clear to see even through the darkness of the morning. Rin decided to make him even madder by pulling her so close that their hips touched. The best friends hooked elbows like a married couple and drank their monster with their elbows linked. Fred just groaned audibly and screwed headphones tightly into his ears while looking out the window. Koda mouthed, "Thank you," to Rin as he let her go and they unsnaked their arms. When the bus finally reached Middleton High School, Koda stood up first and slid out of the, seat. Rin started to follow her when Fred pushed him back and followed close behind her. She stepped off the bus, with Fred basically falling on top of her, started to quickly walk away to get him off her trail. Rin walked up to her to save the day, yet again. He walked beside her and grabbed her hand snaking his fingers between hers. She caught on to what he was doing and interlocked her fingers with his. Fred, now extremely pissed off, screamed, "Stop pretending you're both dating. I will make you mine Koda, I swear to it." He slapped her bum as hard as he could and she promptly released Rin's hand and punched him in the face. Fred fell to the ground holding his, now, deformed nose as blood dripped down his face. Koda and Rin quickly ran inside hoping to avoid getting in trouble. Once inside, he gave her a bug high five and said, "Nice work." She gave a playful bow as they both finished off their cans and threw them

They both went to their classes, neither of them had classes together until after lunch. Rin sat next to Koda as she cramed a hamburger down her throat. Koda was known as beauty but her eating habits, well, not so much... That would probably explain why she hung out with Rin so much instead of the popular crowd. Plus the fact she wasn't afraid to speak her mind, be nerdy at times or even give out a punch or two. "Hungry?" teased Rin as he sat down next to her with his brown bag lunch. She nodded and took another bite smearing ketchup on her cheek. He laughed as he pulled out his apple and bottle of water. Koda peeked into his bag and saw that was all he packed. "Your mom forgot to send you money for groceries again?" she asked as she wiped her face with her sleeve. Rin shook his head, "No she did. I just decided to go on a diet." He shrugged as he bit into his apple. Dumbfounded, Koda stared at him. "Are you kidding me? You. Go on a diet? Rin, if you lose any more weight your book bag might out weigh you." She poked his belly for emphasis. "Fine. I'm saving up to buy more stuff," he groaned as he hated people touching his stomach. Rin was a bit on the scrawny side but he didn't mind. Koda laughed at him and said, "You know you can ask me for money. I have no problem lending you some." His response was just a shrug. She was rich so people opened took advantage of her so he didn't like to ask her for anything. Finishing her burger in about 5 bites total, Koda started cramming down fries as if they were trying to run away. Rin took another small bite of his apple when Fred handed Koda a note. Using the fingernail on her pinkie, she pushed it away from her with a groan. "You're not even going to open it? Sheesh you'd think to at least open a note from your boyfriend," Rin teased as he nudged her side. She shot him a glare before stuffing her face with another handful of fries. Rin picked up the note and read it out loud, "Dear sweet Koda, I will overlook the fact that you shattered my nose if you promise me a date to homecoming with you. Yes, I mean you, Koda Astley, as my date. Not Koda Greene or Koda Bates. You. If you refuse to accept, however, I would gladly tell the principal about my nose. xoxo Fred." He burst out laughing as he finished and said, "He'd get in as much trouble if not more for slapping your bum." Koda was not as amused. She slurped up some of her milkshake and grabbed the note in her fist before marching over to him. "Is this some kind of joke? First of all, this is high school, you don't ask somebody out by passing notes. That's simply childish. Second of all, I don't accept invitations with threats. Third of all, the argument to which you are threatening me will get you in trouble as well since you slapped my bum first. My answer is no, so move on you twat." She ripped up the note and threw it at him then stormed back to her seat stuffing her face with more fries. Rin wasn't sure who was more surprised, Fred or him. Another nearby student heard her and started slow clapping. Soon enough a few other students joined them along with Rin. Koda simply blushed and then just finished eating her lunch, which there wasnt much left.
