Iwaizumi thanked Ms. Amaya and promised to come back soon then hopped in his car quickly. It was nearing 9:30 and the ice rink closed at 10, so he floored the car and drove as quickly as he could.
Stupid Oikawa. I don't hear from him for a decade and this is what I have to deal with. Pathetic... Only... it wasn't pathetic. It was... almost bittersweet? Why on Earth was Tooru taking him to their old dating spots? To make him feel guilty? Iwaizumi felt like he deserved it.
.....
9:46 pm. On time.
Iwaizumi stepped out of the car and jogged into the ice rink. It was almost empty save for a few young children and an old couple watching them with content.
"Hello?" He turned to the woman at the skate renting desk. "Um, do you happen to have something addressed to a... Hajime Iwaizumi?" The woman looked puzzled and slowly shook her head.
"I'm sorry sir, I don't believe I do... Would you like me to consult my manager?" Hajime nodded politely while he caught his breath. Running and stressing and following this crazy maze made by his stupid friend... ex? Ex-friend? Was tiring him out.
"Hello Mr... Iwaizumi." A taller woman with black hair and deep blue eyes greeted him. "I'm sorry but I don't believe I have anything addressed to you. If you'd like I can call the other locations and see if they have anything?"
"N-no... no thank you. I'm sorry to waste your time." Hajime turned dejectedly. This was exactly what he was supposed to do. He unfolded the letter from his back pocket.
You'll know where to find it.
But it dawned on him. He didn't remember much from that night since his fever had clouded his memory so heavily, but there was one thing that he remembered clear as day from that date.
"My poor baby." Oikawa cooed, rubbing his hand through Iwaizumi's sweaty hair. "You know, maybe next time we come here you stay by the vending machines." He laughed and Iwaizumi groaned.
The vending machines. That was it.
9:54 pm. Six minutes to find this note. Six minutes to being one step closer to Oikawa. Hajime rushed over to the side of the rink passing the confused desk woman again.
Where did you put this letter you idiot. He scanned through the rows of snacks. Nothing.
9:56 pm. Four minutes until the rink closed.
C5 potato chips.
E7 chocolate chip cookies.
B12 vanilla wafers.
But nothing stood out to him. Nothing until he saw it.
G17 a letter.
He quickly placed a dollar in and punched the numbers as hard as possible.
Come on... fall faster dammit.
9:58 pm.
"Attention skaters, there are two minutes until closing. Everyone please leave the ice arena."
Plunk.
Hajime shakily grabbed the envelope and began walking out of the ice rink. A red seal, this one with the imprint of an ice skate. How fitting.
