Prologue
“Caption, there’s a storm coming. Its headed right for us.”
“We have to go through it. It’s the only way to go to Herathen. You should know that by now, Grand.”
The caption took a seat in a large chair that faced out the huge windshield that took up the whole front of the carrier. The sound of the alarm rang though the carrier and made soldiers hurry around the hovercraft. Lights were blinking everywhere.
“Caption! The storm is bigger than we thought,” Said a soldier wearing the same green uniform as everyone else in the hovercraft. “If we continue,” He posed. “Well there could consequences.”
“We have to get going. If we don’t, then the enemy will get closer than we want.” The caption said standing up and moving closer to the large control panel in the front of the carrier.
“Of course.” Said the soldier. The caption looked out at the storm that was headed right towards there path. Dark clouds with flashes of light brightening it for mere seconds at a time. The sea below was dark wand rough. There was no sight of land in view. As the hover craft got closer to the cloud, the more beeps the hovercraft made, and the more soldiers were running around. Grand hurried over to the caption and put his hand on her shoulder.
“Rhea, please. This is the last time I will ask. If we don’t turn around right now,” Grand cut off, not wanting to say the rest. Rhea turned around, her hazel eyes staring into Grand’s.
“I know what I’m doing. We can’t go back. Not now.” Rhea said walking back to her chair. Grand nodded and walked back to his post. Rhea watched as they entered the cloud. Darkness filled the sky and flashes of lightning we’re all around. Lights of the controls were blinking and beeps where coming from all the machines. Rhea kept a steady eye on what was ahead. Tension was growing in the air.
“The radar is down.” Said a girl in front of Rhea. Rhea nodded and pressed on a button on her control panel beside her. The button glowed green.
“Wing E is down on power. It must be because of the lightning.” Grand said not looking at Rhea. There was a loud rumble coming for outside, followed by a huge flash of lightning, which hit the hovercraft. All the lights went off in the main control room and an alarm rang.
“The whole hovercraft is down,” Called a boy on the other side of the room.
“Turn on the back up power and see if that helps.” Caption Rhea replied. “How are the engines?”
“Engines 1,2,4 are on full, but engine 3 seems to be failing.” Called a man beside her.
“Do you know what is causing it to fail?
“No ma’am. It could be a leak or from the lightning strike, but its not picking up.” Rhea cursed under her breath.
“Caption!” A woman called running towards her carrying a tablet. “This shows how big the storm is and how far we are though it. If you look here,” She said pointing to a small orange dot flashing. “This is us. And all of this,” She said circling a huge grey, mist looking thing that covered the whole tablet. “This is the storm. If we zoom out, look. The storm seems to never end. It doesn’t even show where Herathen is.” Rhea took the tablet form the soldier’s hands. She looked at it and zoomed out.
“What does this mean?”
“I don’t know. Maybe its some sort of magnetic field and I’m not able to see past it, but,” She stopped.
“Soldier Piaras. What is are height?”
“We’re at 500 meters above sea level.” Piaras replied. There was another rumble and more lightning.
“Engine 2 is failing” Called the man beside her.
“We are going to be going though some turbulence.” Said the navigator. Rhea was starting to regret this. Just a little bit longer She thought to herself, Just a little longer, then we’ll be out of the storm and back to Herathen.
The navigator was right. The hovercraft rumbled, sending some people falling to the floor. Rhea buckled her seatbelt.
“We’re dropping.” Piaras called. Rhea tried to see if she could see the water or anything in that matter.
“Engine 4 is down. Shall I use the back up engine?” Asked Bianca.
“Yes, and try to see if you can figure out why our engines are failing. Send the mechanics to try to fix them.” Rhea said. “Can some one please figure out how far we are into the storm and how close we are to land?”
The hovercraft hit something, a air pocket or something, which sent the hovercraft spinning.
“Caption!” Piaras shouted over all the alarms that where going off. “We falling fast! We need the engines going!”
“Bianca!” Rhea yelled. “What’s the engine status?”
“We have lost all engines! The mechanics are there trying to see if it’s a leak.” Bianca said holding a phone to her ear.
“Rhea! We need to get you out of here!” It was Grand shouting. He was in front of her, holding out his hand.
“No! I cant leave my team be hide!”
“You have to! You’re more important! You have Lux and Weasly, Your job.” Grand said steadying himself on the chair. “Come on!”
Rhea looked at him. His light brown hair tinted with grey, all messy and all over the place. It made her think about how her hair looked. Now is not the time for this! She thought. She unbuckled herself and took Grand’s hand. He lead her though the main control room and opened he metal doors. They ran though the dark hallway and headed towards the escape pods. The hallway was full of people rushing and broken wires. They got to the pods and Grand opened one of the single ones. He pushed Rhea into one.
“Are you ready?” Grand said looking at her with sad in his eyes.
Rhea shook her head “No! I can’t leave you! I should be there with there rest of the team.”
Grand looked at her, his grey eyes soft and watery. “You need to go now!” He touched her face, his hands smooth. “Ill see you at Herathen.” He said before closing the pod’s door.
