Esther gripped the steering wheel. She kept her eyes glued to the clear road ahead of her. To Esther's right sat Cass: Who was so still you could hardly see her breathe, with her hazel eyes stuck looking out the window. The 2 women sat in an aching silence, with nothing but the soft rumble of the road and the whine of Dedicated to the One I Love to fill it.
"You didn't have to do it, you know." Esther mumbled to herself.
Cass shot a quick look to her left. She immediately looked away. The guilt overtook her stomach. She clenched her torso, and kept her focus on the window. Esther rolled her eyes and tapped her fingertips on the steering wheel. The tension grew.

Esther and Cass had met when they were 17 at a local record store- and had been inseparable since. Esther and Cass, Cass and Esther. The Aries and Libra. The light brunette and golden blonde. The match made in heaven. It had been 2 years now, and they were still a happy couple. Well, seemed to be. Cass had been up to something... something Esther would pick up on quickly. Since then, the duo had a different dynamic.

"What the hell did I ever do to you? You were my all-" Esther mustered before giving up on her words.
Cass loosened her gaze to the right and turned a bit.
"You just aren't enough for me." Cass abruptly stated.
"Just not enough."
"Then who is, huh? WHO THE FUCK IS?!?!"
Esther gritted her teeth. She slammed her foot on the brakes.
"Then who is." Esther whimpered.
The grey SUV stood motionless in the long country road. It remained silent, with only the hum of No Salt on Her Tail to ease it.
Cass finally looked right into Esther's warm dark brown eyes and said "I'm not completely sure anyone is."
"I'll never be satisfied with what I have. Until it's gone."
Cass bit her lip. She knew she messed up big time. She had completely deceived Esther's trust. One night with another girl ruined 2 year's work. And all it came down to was selfishness.

"Though it's hard for me (hard for me), I'm going to leave her free (gonna leave), cause' that would be the best philosophy, she'll come to me (come to me), so I feel that to be real thatttt" The radio seemed to have screamed.
"I can't get over you."
Esther looked Cass in the eye again. They shared a gaze before leaning in for a kiss. It was long and genuine. Cass pulled away with a look of hurt in her eyes. Esther gave a cold glance back.
"Let's go."
Esther pressed her foot on the gas. They had a long road ahead of them.
