"Dude, my parents are going out for two days! Which means?" Taemin shouted through the phone while I walked around my room.
"Sneaking out for a sleepover!" I lowered my voice as I exclaimed.
"Bring over Amber too! We will have an amazing time, I have quite a few surprises for you two." He said. "Where is she anyway?"
"She is eating dinner downstairs." I informed him.
"You should be eating too!" He instructed me.
"My parents will see the bruises if I go down now. I am not hungry anyway." I said.
"After this Luna drama from yesterday, you need this sleepover more than anyone else. Friday evening, okay? Tell Amber. I have to do my stupid homework now. Bye babe!" He hung up.
Putting down the phone, I returned to my laptop and started typing away till I was interrupted by Amber's back hug.
"New episode already?" She asked.
"No. Just editing the one for the week after the next." I smiled. "When were your friends from your old school going to call?"
"In about ten minutes, why? Will you be joining us?" She seemed excited.
"Yeah. I am sorry I was so rude earlier." I lowering my gaze.
"It's a video call. So ..." She bit her lip.
"That's okay. I'll just say I fell down or something." I smiled while saving my file. I filled in Amber on Taemin's sleepover.
"So you do this every year?" She asked as she opened her laptop.
"Sometimes more than once a year. His parents go to their hometown around this time every year. We started doing this sleepover thing two years ago." I let her know. "But we will tell my parents that it's a church camp thing, I'll fill them in, you don't have to worry."
"Ohhh ... Oh! They're calling!" Amber jumped up and accepted the call. "Hey! It's been so long!"
.........
"Okay, these are the parts we are editing, right?" Krystal asked me as I circled the parts in pencil.
"Yeah. I'll type out the new version in the library during P.E." I responded while scribbling down the edits.
"You don't have to sacrifice your P.E. You love that period." Krystal said and immediately regretted it.
"It's really not a sacrifice." I let out a nervous giggle.
"What day is it?" She quickly changed the course of the conversation.
"Tuesday." I replied.
"We started this project last Tuesday, I can't believe we have gotten so much done just in a week." She said.
"It's been really fun. Maybe that's why it didn't feel like too much." I wrote down the date and put the pages and pencil into the file.
The bell rung and she hurried to write down a pass for me to skip class before going to her class. The lunch break had just ended.
I walked back to my class and Amber quickly asked, "What do you want to play?"
"I have to edit the script." I took out the pendrive from my bag.
"You missed PE last week too!" She whined.
"Yeah. I wonder why I wanted get away from them." I said sarcastically as I nodded towards the three members of the volleyball team in our class. "Sorry. Ugh. I am being really annoying. Sorry."
"No. It's okay. I get it. Luna came here looking for you. I gave her a good talk." Amber puffed up her chest.
I laughed and sat down. "Thank you! What would I do without you?" I playfully punched her.
"I have no idea." She joined me and then trailed off to a dim tone. "She was feeling pretty sorry, honestly."
"You read her mind too?" I asked. "Don't you have any weaknesses?"
"It does take up a lot of energy." She gave me a guilty grin.
"Why did you read her mind? I am okay with you reading my mind but I don't think other people will appreciate it." I said.
"She seemed really sad, I didn't understand why she would have been after that incident. She was clearly throwing you under the bus." Amber said.
"Everyone, line up!" An instruction emerged from the door.
"Want to skip with me?" I asked as I stood up. She nodded. I wrote down her name in the pass and showed it to the teacher before we walked to the library.
We found a quiet cubicle and turned on the computer. I started editing with Amber seated behind me, staring at the screen over my shoulder.
"So? What did you find out Sherlock?" I asked after a few minutes of silence.
"She did it because the girl who saw you two was blackmailing her." She said.
"Makes sense. Luna is a newer member of the permanent team, it'll take less than half of what happened to me for her to be put back in the bleachers." I sighed. "And who is blackmailing her?"
"Your replacement. The new libero." Amber hesitated before saying it.
I stopped typing. "Jeez, that sophomore is really crafty." I bit down my lip.
"You know she likes you, right?" Amber grabbed the old pages and looked through.
"The sophomore?" I asked while rubbing my temples.
"Luna." She whispered after looking around.
"She does?" My voice sounded oddly hopeful. Her nod made me stand up and pace around the cubicle.
"You didn't know." She observed.
"So Luna is ... gay?" I whispered, taking my seat again. Another nod. I could feel the sweat dripping down my neck.
Hugs and kisses from Cheonsa.
