happy bday to both akaashi and me!

. . .

"Please accept my feelings."

Akaashi's head was buzzing with emotions and open-ended questions.

His face displayed signs of neither.

He had never seen you, let alone engaged in a conversation with you before, and you were suddenly confessing your love?

He stared at the top of your head. Bowed down, your eyes glued on the ground, obviously as flustered as he was internally, he continued to think.

Was this some sort of prank?

A complete stranger asking him out on a date?

Slowly, he watched as you straightened back out, your face expressing your embarrassment and dejection to Akaashi's lack of response.

"Where are you from?" He broke the silence, avoiding the confession, and let his voice, as monotonous as ever, take over. Despite how uncomfortable he was, he couldn't just watch you stand there, awaiting your inevitable rejection. So he did something he rarely ever did. He went out of his way to respond.

Additionally, Akaashi had no idea as to what had compelled him to do so. He could have simply rejected you and turned away.

He could have saved you both from the awkward tension that was evident, the air around somehow stale even with the cool winter breeze bristling through his short black hair.

"...Keio Girls' High. I'm a second-year."

He merely nodded. He could hear your voice lose tension, your body seeping relief from his change of subject. He had no idea why, but he was intrigued by the fact that his avoidance of your confession didn't faze or dishearten you at the slightest.

In fact, he noticed that you were not displaying emotions of embarrassment he would expect to come from a confession. You didn't seem very worried about the probability of rejection. You seemed merely flustered by the fact that you had confessed. Were you truly interested in a relationship? Was this truly your intention, or were you hiding your emotions as he often did?

Akaashi patiently waited for you to speak more. You seemed to catch on, as you reluctantly met his eyes and prepared to talk again.

"I-I'm sorry. I've seen you on the same bus every day for months now and..." You sighed hopelessly, trailing off your meaningless statement. How were you so calm? How did it seem as if this hadn't mattered? What was so... strange about you?

He could only watch you as you ran your fingers through your (h/c) hair, likely your way of coping with the anxiety levels of the situation you were in. He stared at your faint grin, despite what was happening. He watched you closely as you mouthed out what you planned to be your next words. Something was off, and Akaashi was fully aware.

In all honesty, even though you were acting much differently than he could anticipate, every action you performed amused him greatly.

He realized he wanted to know more of you than just "the girl from the bus".

He wanted to know how you expressed yourself so freely and calmly at the same time, how you acted on your true emotions with ease, and how all those feelings were reasonable and tamed.

You only smiled, a light blush creeping onto your cheeks. "I understand if you're uncomfortable."

Akaashi remained silent. He wanted to speak, but what would he say? How would he react?

He had no idea how to act upon the unprecedented situation. He knew an abundance of girls at his school who would gladly take him as their boyfriend despite his rejection, so why was this girl any different?

He studied your features. You were attractive, but that was not what interested him.

Why did you act this way? He couldn't put his finger on it, but there was something about you that stood out.

Akaashi thought harder.

He wanted to know what you were hiding.

. . .

Now you were the one that started to feel uncomfortable. "I'm sorry. I'll be off."

You awaited a response. Nothing. "Goodbye, Akaashi-kun."

You hesitated as he did as well. What were his intentions? Suddenly, as you were about to make your way back home, he reached out a singular hand, just a slight extension towards you, causing you to pause.

You sighed as silence greeted you again.

You turned again to the path you had stopped him on a mere fifteen minutes ago.

"Wait."

His quiet voice battled against the light rustle of wind against your ears.

"Y-Yes?" You turned back to him curiously. What could he possibly want from you, a complete stranger?

Akaashi contemplated what he was about to do, curiosity overwhelming him.

"We can... try," He said in a low voice.

. . .

"What?"

He watched your expression carefully, studying your reaction as if it were a ball he was about to set.

Your eyebrows knitted together in confusion as you took a step back. Your expression, for a split second, twitched into one of fear. Biting your bottom lip, you recoiled, eyes searching his face for any sign of him messing with you.

"We can go ou-"

"Oh," He saw you steady again, taking a step towards him and forcing a smile, even though you had interrupted him. "Thank you, Akaashi-kun."

Thank you? What did you mean by thank you? Akaashi thought again. Why were you doing this when you didn't seem the least bit interested in him? Was this real or faked?

Were you that good at putting up a mask that, Akaashi Keiji, arguably one of the most analytical people you'd ever meet, couldn't understand you?

"I'll see you around!"

He raised his eyebrows. You never mentioned a date location, time, or even your contact information. Akaashi decided not to pry and just let you go, even though he knew there was something wrong.

Maybe she didn't mean it.

. . .

You exhaled another shaky breath, slight anger bubbling inside of you as you realized what had gotten you into this and how you aren't quite out yet either.

You just got a boyfriend-

And you avoided him for absolutely no reason-

Steadying your breaths, you ensured you were far out of the eyesight of your "crush" and slowed your pace to a stop.

For a good minute, all tension faded as you turned to the breeze, admiring how the weather never failed to calm you.

The weather, something that was unpredictable.

Something that could change in an instant.
