Prolouge

The girl dashed through the crowded alleyway, desperately trying to outrun them. The black hooded figures slipped through the shadows, slowly outpacing her. Beads of sweat dot her forehead as she sprints through the narrow pathways and hurries around narrow corners. A small yelp escapes her lips as she slips, falling on the hard concrete. She stands up as quickly as she can, but they have had all the time they need. She is surrounded. She is doomed.

“Julia, Julia,” one of them coos, stepping forward, his red eyes flashing from beneath his mask. “Who-Who are you?” the girl named Julia stammered, trembling. “Please, just leave me alone…I didn’t do anything, and-”

“You’re right; you didn’t do anything,” the man said, drawing a knife from his belt, allowing the silver blade to glint in a single ray of sun. A green film covered most of it, giving the skinny piece of metal an almost needle-like appearance.

“Wha-What are you going to do to me?” she stuttered, backing away from the weapon. “I already told you I didn’t do anything!”

“We need you to help us,” he said eerily, stroking the thin metal carefully. “We need you to help us save the world. We could do it. All it costs…is your memory.”

The girl didn’t have time to scream as the sharp object was plunged into her arm. She fell to the ground, unconscious. The man hoisted her over his shoulder, and then they dashed off.

The girl would never see that place again.

*Five years later*

“Kelsi, you have been training for five years exactly for this moment. Once you enter, there is no going back. Are you ready?”

“Of course. Send me in,” the now confident girl replied. She had no memory that today was the anniversary of the day she lost her memory. The day her parents were killed. The day she was taken away from the world.

“I wish you the best of luck,” the guard replied with an evil grin. He pulled the lever, and the metal plate Kelsi was standing on to descended into the darkness of the test zone.
