We live in a modern society, a fast moving world. Where  individuals nowadays are so caught up with how society is supposed to look, act and manifest.

It was the coldest season of the year, murky, strong winds and snow glaze right across the fields. My fingers were so numb, my lips were shivering and my toes were shrivelling up inside of my shoes. I felt as though my heavy coat, mittens, beanie and new snow boots were not enough in this magical season.

My days often feel short and my nights suddenly become depleted. The birds were flying around the deep, grey sky chirping. They were surrounding my younger siblings Christian and Christina playing in the snow, making a snowman and throwing white, icy snow at each other. All they wanted to do was make snow angels and be playful.

Christmas was coming up next week. All I wanted was to be together with my mother again. Ever since my mother has left dad, the kids and I it has been such a mess. A hole is missing from my heart and this part of me is gone. Mum died from a very bad snow blizzard in the fields. Every Christmas before she died she used to made us homemade cookies with a dash of icing sugar. This was accompanied with hot cocoa. Days like these I wonder why it had to be her taken away from us. My siblings need their mother, but dad always reminds me to be the kids role model.

"Come on guys let's go inside and make some hot cocoa, it is deliciously warm for these chilly mornings" I insisted. In my head all I wanted was my mother to be here with us. In memory of my mother, my siblings and I attempted to bake similar homemade cookies like mums. But mums ones were always better.

I served my younger siblings and father some delicious homemade cookies and thick, frothy hot cocoa. They were all delighted and satisfied.

"Jess today we must put the Christmas tree up. Christmas is next week and we still have not put it up" cried Christian.

I walked over to the garage, grabbed a large ladder and dad helped me pull the Christmas decoration boxes out one by one.

Christian and Christina begun by taking the ornaments out that we were going to use. Dad and I begin by unboxing the bright green, festive and colourful Christmas tree.

We unravelled the stems of the Christmas tree and started attaching them one by one to each other. I stood up and placed the bright, golden star at the top of the Christmas tree. The kids placed all the ornaments up on the tree  and lastly I put the manger, Jesus, the sheep and disciples at the bottom of the tree. It seems as though everything is coming together except mother's presence with us.

Christina also attained the Christmas stockings  with our names Jess, Christina, Christian, John and Jasmine. These were than placed on the white, beige ledge.
