"GET UNDER SOMETHING! Mari? Mari!? MARI!!" I yelled into the phone. "DAMNIT!!" I was under my bed. The shaking had been going on for about thirty seconds. Cracks were appearing along my walls and ceiling. Suddenly, the phone came alive with noise. Mari was screaming, it chilled me to my core. "MARI!!!" There was silence on the other end, although I could still hear shaking and things breaking through it. At that second, the shaking got even worse, the ceiling completely came down in one corner. "I'm fine!!!" I yelled to my parents. Oh yeah! There are cameras set up on the boardwalk that are available online. Unfortunately, there wasn't one where Ella went psycho. Look at that, Internet still works. I pulled up the Riverscape camera. The building itself was in the corner of cameras vision, it was enough. Enough to see that the building wasn't holding up too well. Then, the building crunched the first floor. "NOOOOOO!!!" I screamed. The feed from the camera cut out. I was about to get out from under the bed to just end it all, I wouldn't have to be around for my sisters death, I wouldn't have to deal with Mari's. Or my destroyed home. I willed something to fall and crush me. Then the shaking stopped. Damn these old, sturdy buildings. I ducked into my parents room and made sure they were all right. "I gotta go, I might be back," I spoke. The living room was intact. The door operable. The hallway was more of the same. I was starting to think the only place that got destroyed was my room. With my life being the way it is today, I wouldn't be surprised. I had to get to Mari's, I probably shouldn't. I don't know what I would do if I saw her flattened body. I definitely wouldn't be coming back home. So I made a deal with myself, if Mari was alive, I would continue, I would go on to contribute to the world some day. If not, then I'm staying with Mari, one way or another. After 15 minutes of walking, I reached her place. Where it used to be. I saw her mother picking through the mess. I ran up to her. "Did you find her?" "No," she was absolutely sobbing, "I don't know, I don't know. I don't know where my baby girl is!" She completely broke down. The rain coming down glistened on her face and I noticed a huge scar running the span of her face. I started helping her move things around. "Shh, be quiet for a second," I said sharply to her mother. I could barely make out some laboured breathing. I start ripping rubble away from the source of the noise. I ducked under the second floor. Think about that. A super thin slab of concrete was on top of a wooden desk. The noise was emanating from under it. I threw the slab to the side to reveal a splintered desk.
