"I'll take you away from all of this. I promise." He said.
His hand had a strong grip on mine. I sighed and leaned back into my pillow. Moonlight shone through the window, giving the room a gorgeous glow. Below us I could hear muffled shouts. They were still arguing. I didn't quite understand what Mark had meant by "take me away." Perhaps he was just trying to make me feel better. I was so sick of this! I knew I would never escape from this hell. I could feel tears coming. They stung my eyes, and slowly rolled down my face. I tried to hide it, but Mark was not fooled. He leaned in closer to me, and kissed my forehead.
"I promise."
