"But mom! Its not fair!" I yelled back at my mother.
"I'm sorry Samantha, but you need to stay here. I don't want anything happening to you." My mother explained. I sighed heavily and sat down on her bed. She was getting ready to go down to town to get some groceries. She sat down carefully next to me.
"I'm sorry, but I wouldn't be able to live if anything happened to you."
I laid my head against her shoulder. She kissed the top of my head and stood up so she could finished packing. I stared up at the ceiling.
I've always dreamed about going to town. My mother always tells me stories about what its like down there. Lots of stores, restaurants, and more buildings than I can count. She always says that some of the sights there are breath taking.
My mothers favorite place to go to while she is down there are the cliff dwellings. They are these buildings in the middle of the rocks and are homes of Indians, or at least they used to be. Now it is a tourist attraction.
I snapped out of my thoughts when my little brother ran in the room. He jumped on top of me and started laughing. I picked him up off of me and plopped him down on the bed.
"You little monster."
"Yep, thats me!" He said before laughing.
I started to tickle him.
"S-stop, l-let me g-go!" he laughed.
"Never!" I screamed.
He started laughing more. I laughed too. He had the cutest laughter.
"Sami, let Jonah go." My mother said while giggling too.
"Fine, but I'll be back as soon as mom is gone." I said in my monster voice.
Jonah giggled and ran out of the room. I laughed and laid back down on the bed.
"Wow, I've never seen a brother and sister so close."
I watched as she put her tooth brush and toothpaste into the bag and she zipped it up.
"Ya I know, but he's one of the only people that I get to talk to here."
She sighed and looked at me with sad eyes.
"Alright, so we've already covered all the rules. So, I think its time for me to go."
I sat up and looked at her. Tears started to pour out of my eyes.
"Awe sweetheart." My mom said while hugging me.
I cried on her shoulder. She let go of me and looked at me in the eyes. I looked down at the floor, trying to avoid eye contact knowing if I did I would start crying more. She lifted up my chin so I would look at her.
"I'll only be gone for a little while, and I'll be back soon. I promise."
She wiped away my tears with her thumb and looked at me one last time. Before turning around to step of her bedroom door. She pulled her backpack over her shoulder and gave Jonah one last hug as well.
"Y-you promise?" I stuttered.
"I promise." She winked.
I smiled and hugged her again. She let go of me and opened up the front door and started to walk away. I sat in the doorway and watched. She turned around and smiled at me. She mouthed the words "I promise" and with that she kept walking more and more out of sight.
"Goodbye." I whispered.
