After classes, I head up to the astronomy tower. Daphne and I often come up here to smoke, especially when we have something big to discuss.
As you can probably guess, the main issue on tonight's agenda is the whole Draco kiss thingy.
The sky is just beginning to darken and stars are becoming clearer, glistening amongst the clouds. The stairs lead me to the abandoned viewpoint and, for a moment, I just stare out into the vast abyss below me. The railing is cold and I have to adjust my jumper to cover my hands. Although I've been beating myself up for kissing Draco these past 24 hours, somehow I don't feel regret or even guilt. In the moment, it was perfect. Despite the relentless teasing I endure at his hands, there's something about Draco Malfoy that leaves me desperate to know more. In that brief moment last night, I couldn't help but wonder if there was more to him than his cold outer layer, if maybe, underneath it all, there was a decent human being capable of loving and feeling like the rest of us. And yet he still remains a mystery to me. All I want is to occupy his mind in the same way he occupies mine.
"Sorry I'm late!" Daphne splutters, adjusting her tie. I glance at her untucked shirt and smudged mascara before smirking. "Yes, alright! I was with Graham, lets leave it at that."
I nod, honestly not wishing to know any more about my best friend's sexual encounter. Daph shoves her hand into her bra and carefully retrieves a lighter and a pack of cigs.
I let out a little squeal before running over and taking one from her.
"Alright, calm your tits." She says sarcastically, "There's plenty to go around." At this, Daphne gestures to the empty tower before letting out a little laugh. I roll my eyes at her before taking one of the slim cylinders of tobacco out of the packaging and placing it gently between my lips. On cue, Daphne tries the lighter a few times before placing the flame just under the end of my cigarette. I take a deep inhale, allowing the smoke to fill every corner of my lungs, before exhaling slowly. Immediately my brain relaxes and all the thoughts that have been plaguing my conscience all day float away with the smoke I release.
"Now that you've been fed, can we talk?" Daphne asks as she beckons at me to light her awaiting cigarette. "Light me up, please." I nod and reach for the lighter.
"What do you want to know?" She inhales as I light up the end.
"Well first of all-" She takes a deep breath out, smoke crawling out her mouth as she speaks, "-why did you kiss him then?"
I furrow my brows at her. "What do you mean?"
"I mean, of all the opportunities to kiss Draco, why did you do it right after he brought up such a personal issue."
"Um, well..." I don't actually know the answer. "I mean, it wasn't a conscious decision. It sort of just happened?"
"It just happened?" She rolls her eyes in response.

Fanfic"Shut up right now." He says, covering my mouth with his hand. For a moment we both stare at each other, not quite sure what to do next. My body is frozen against the wall. All I can focus on is Draco's minty breath that dances across my face. Hi...
