Early in the morning the girls headed to the pool. Mary did a graceful swallow dive into the pool and Jalissa swum strong streaks across. Ambrosia swum Jolly nice also but not as good. Lilac swum nicely but played fool with Jalissa too often to practice. To everyone's astonishment Tina dived into the pool and with a splash swum prettily to the surface.
"How splendid that dive was, good for you old girl." cried Mary. Tina looked pleased at this. The others were impressed but still quite angry with Tina so said nothing. Susy Glute and a fellow second former Belle were diving into the pool. "Hide me." squealed Tammy but it was too late. Susy elegantly swam over. "Can you kids stop making such noise? Me and Belle are trying to practice." And you two." she said sneering at Tammy and Mary. "You haven't recited that poem to me so let's hear it now." Tammy turned red and replied "I shan't recite it because I haven't bothered to learn it Susy, you see you simply aren't allowed to dish out beastly punishments whenever you like!" Now it was Susy's turn to turn red. "I don't see why not." Susy's friend Belle frantically tried to pull her away.
Susy pointed her nose in the air and swam off. "What a beast." sneered Mary. Later during games as Jalissa was getting ready when she heard Leticia and Rain outside. "Well for tennis i'm thinking about putting on Talia from the fourth form she's got a strong serve and Runs jolly fast." "Then there's Susy of the second who can jump quite high and plays jolly well." Jalissa sneered in annoyance as she heard Susy's name. "What about Jalissa?" Asked Leticia. "She's better than all of the second form maybe and even the third or forth at sports if she just worked harder and quit playing the fool. Jalissa gasped happily.
"I shall have to see how she's doing this practice." said Rain. "What's that girl's name, the one with the green eyes, first form I think?" said Leticia. "Ah yes Lilac she's a jolly good player as well." said Rain "Well make up your mind who's to be on the teams soon old girl, they'll want to know by friday." said Leticia "Friday! I shall be up to my chin in work!" Said Rain. They walked away still chatting. Jalissa stood up and jogged out towards the field. After playing and beating both Lilac, and Tammy, Jalissa thought herself impressive indeed. "Quite nice out there Jalissa!" called Rain out beckoning for her to come over. Other girls watched jealousy as Jalissa ran towards Rain. "Jalissa, hear me well if there were any other games captain they wouldn't pick you but if you work hard and don't play fool I really shall consider you for the teams." Jalissa nodded eagerly but alas she didn't hold her word. All through the next practice she fooled off for her friends forgetting her promise and on friday she had a bitter shock when the name's were called.
"All right listen up everyone!" called Rain. "For swimming we shall be taking Belle, Myself, Susy, Agave, Annabel, Edith, and Wendy!"
Jalissa was puzzled not to hear her name. "She shook it off and thought that she was silly indeed to expect to be chosen for everything. "For Lacrosse we will have Agave, Tara, Belle, Daffy, Bobbie, Katie Edith, and Leticia!" Now Jalissa was worried. Will I not be picked at all? She worried and worried. ""And now for tennis we will have Susy, Talia, Myself, Delila, Daffy, Katie, Acel, Carrie, and Lilac!" Lilac gasped proudly, but tears came to Jalissa's eyes. Rain noticed her glum face. "Hey Jalissa, I'm sorry but you simply aren't a team player and play fool to much." Jalissa shrugged like she didn't care and walked off but oh how sad she was indeed. "We really need a first rate player like her but she just plays the fool too often." said Rain. As Jalissa bitterly walked away she swore she would be on the teams next year and Rain would be sorry she ever left her out.
