Everything That Drowns Me

Chapter 23

*Ben's POV*

Jack and I took Cynthia through the long hallways and rooms until we found the small cave like hall. She was alright until she saw where we were headed. Her eyes widened as she turned around to run, but Jack was one step ahead. He wrapped his arms around her, holding her tight. She kicked and screamed at him.

"NO! NOT AGAIN! PLEASE!!"

Unfortunatly, I hadn't thought about this part... I should've known she wouldn't want to go back to a place where she was almost beat to death...

"Eliza, please it's ok!" I said softly, trying to get her to be quiet. I held her face in my hands, forcing her to look at me. "We're not going to hurt you in any way... We're getting you out of here..." I said quietly. She had stopped to listen now and she slowly nodded as Jack let go of her. We guided her down the tunnel until we found the room. She looked around with confusion on her face.

"It's a dead end..." She said, unsure.

Jack shook his head and pressed into a stone on the wall. A door opened with yet again another tunnel. Except at the end of this tunnel, there was light. Jack waited in the small room while I lead Eliza out. She had a frown on her face the whole time. Finally we stepped into sunlight and looked around. We were in the overrealm. Near Eliza's town actually.

"No." She stated simply.

That broke my thoughts and I looked at her.

"Eliza, you have t-"

"I said no, Ben... I'm not leaving you..."

"You have to or you'll get hurt..." I said quietly. She paused for a few seconds to think.

"I don't care."

"Eliza, go home!"

"Do you even give a shit?" She asked, small tears coming to her eyes. It felt like a slap to the face. I grabbed her shoulders and looked straight into her eyes.

"Of course I do..." I said, trying not to lose it. "I'm doing this for you... For us... I need you to go back to your house. Act like you're exaughsted... Running from something... I'll visit you every night, ok? I can't bare the thought of leaving you and I just want you to know that I love you and thsi will work..."

"I love you too..." She whimpered, putting her hands over mine. She said it... She said it!! "But why do I have to go?..."

"Slender... It'll be ok though. You'll see. After everything's over, I'll take you back... I promise..."

She nodded solemly and shook on the verge of a sob. I gently grabbed her cheek, making her look at me.

"Hey... It's going to be a-alright..." I stuttered, on the verge of tears myself. I leaned in and kissed her, never wanting her to leave or be away from me...

She kissed back and for a few seconds, we were both happy... We had no care in world. Then I heard Jack's voice calling my name from the other end of the tunnel.

"Ben? Everything ok?"

I looked at her and gave her a kiss on the forehead.

"I'll see you this evening... I promise!" I said, turning around and running back into the tunnel. Somehow I knew she reached out for me, but I was already gone...
