WHAT SHE HAD DO

I looked out the window of my moms SUV remembering the day that turned our lives upside down.

I was five and Daniel, my brother, was seven. We were under the kitchen table having front row seats to the full heated argument going on in front of us. Danny had his arms around me holding me protectively to his chest while i clutched on to my build-a-bear bunny, Amy. My mom was screaming at my dad for the first time since i can remember, while my dad just sat on the couch drinking his beer watching the football game, completely ignoring my mother.

"God dammit Richard!" my mother yelled beyond pissed, "can you at least try to acknowledge my presence, you inconsiderate prick!"

I guess my dad finally had enough because he snapped quicker than an overprotective bipolar. He got up from his sheet and throw his beer bottle across the room hitting the family portrait that was taken three years ago when we were a somewhat happy family. "Listen to Melissa. I'M TIRED OF YOU BULLSHIT. YOU AND THOSE UNGRATEFUL LITTLE KIDS HAVE DRIVEN ME WAY OVER MY LIMIT AND I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!" My dad quickly walked over to the table and yanked me by my leg making me bang me head on the floor really hard, "If you think I'm such an "inconsiderate prick" then i guess i wont have to worry about you thinking badly of me if i do this," my dad quickly lifted his right hand as his left hel on tightly to my hair and slaped me right across my face.

I can still remember how much that hurt. Just thinking about it made me cringe from the pain i felt from his slap.

My mom seemed to have stopped breathing and by the time i had fallen to the floor my brother was out from under the table already to cradle me in his arms and my mom had a small black pistol pointed to my father. My mother looked ready to shot him and i knew she wouldn't think twice about it either.

She didn't.

My father seemed to have think that she was bluffing, so he went and took me by my hair again. That's when the loud 'BOOM' filled the house. I quickly opened my eyes to see my brother who had his eyes tightly shut and seemed to have frozen in his place. Then i looked at my mom to see her small body shaking, still holding the gun out in front of her, her eyes as well tightly closed. Finally, i looked at my dad, who was almost as pale as Jasper the Ghost his body stiff but scared. The thing that i noticed that had me so shocked was that he was standing perfectly still. Not one drop of blood on his body . Mom seemed to realize that before he did and quickly took the vase, that my grandma Linda had given her as a Christmas present last year, and smashed it against his head knocking him out could.

The sound of the smashing glass brought my brother back to reality. he quickly took me away from my father and looked up at my mom not knowing what to do, "Mommy what now?"

"Now baby we leave," she said bending down and taking me from Daniel and then grabbing his hand and running out the door. "Daniel get into the car and  buckle up," my mom sat me in my booster seat and buckled me up then gently whipping away some tears that i didnt even realize had started to fall down my cheek. My mom starred at the side of my face that my father had slapped with tears in her eyes. She looked heart broken and guilty,"Baby i am so sorry. Both of you i should have stopped this sooner. I love you guys and i will do everything in my power to make sure that we live a better life." with that my mom closed the door on my side slipped into the drivers seat and drove towards Connecticut.

Life got harder after that. We stayed in Connecticut for 2 months with my Aunt Suzanne but then had to leave because Aunt Suzie got transformed to Texas because of her job and moms job as a waitress didn't pay enough to keep us living in the 4 bedroom house. We ended up moving to New Jersey with my great cousin Juliane for  a year, then moved into a trailer that mom was able to buy from her job as a hair stylist, but then after 5 months Daniel ended up getting very sick with the flu so mom had to miss a week of work to take care of him. In those 7 days mom ended up getting replaced and fired making us leave the trailer and moving to Maryland for 3 years. When I was 9 we moved to new York finally finding stability. Mom got a job in a day care center that surprisingly paid very well. We moved into a 3 bedroom apartment in the projects, and me and Daniel got to go to somewhat good schools around my moms job. Everything was going good. A little too good.

Mom loved her job. She was around kids a lot, but everyone knows where there's kids there's parents and uncles. HOT UNCLES. Mom meet, her now soon-to-be-husband at her job. He went to pick up his neice at moms job and as mom quoted they clicked. So now here we are moving to California to live with Peter in his mansion where we will now live until we move out. The mansion, and the California ans the stable place to stay is AMAZING. It's the having a new dad that's the problem.
