Shu stared as you sat in your spacious room at the Sakamaki household blaring your stereo in an attempt to block out all other noises. You had been here for almost a year. You were a vampire hunter who had tried to kill Laito. Emphasis on the word tried. You had failed miserably and, as some weird form of punishment, taken prisoner. At least, that's what you called it. Laito referred to it as taking in a stray. Since then you had learned to put up with the Sakamaki brother's antics. Kanato's mood swings, Ayato's surprises, Laito's nicknames, Reiji's insults, and Shu's possesiveness. The last one did strike you as odd. When you first arrived, Shu was cold, distant, and sleepy as usual. But after a week or so, he began to notice your undying feistiness. Ayato would corner you in his usual fashion and try to seduce you, to drink your blood. Shu almost didn't care, until he saw you punch Ayato square in the jaw followed by a swift kick where it counts. Shu had to suppress a chuckle. He hadn't seen any other girl try this hard. He decided to pay more attention to your antics and found the sights to be quite amusing. When Kanato tried to scare or guilt trip you, you'd just flip him off and threaten to stake him in his sleep. When Laito would pin you to the wall murmuring something about his feisty little "Bitch-chan", you'd lean forward and sink your dull teeth into whatever skin you could reach while kicking him. When Reiji would try to give you some of his tea, you'd accept it and splash it in his face. After observing these moments he decided he wanted to know more. He watched you while you slept and even resorted to going through your things. He found out quite a few things. You loved music. You listened to it, wrote it, even played several instruments. You also loved reading, something he discovered after finding you dozing off in the mansion's library with a copy of (Favorite Book) draped on your lap. Other than your screaming matches with Kanato you were a quiet girl who kept to herself. You also seemed to fall asleep in the strangest of places. He once found you asleep in the hall and, after chuckling at your cute form, carried you back to your own bed. After months of watching you he had learned that you were a music lover, a bookworm, awkward despite your badass vampire hunter facade, and had a tendency to fall asleep in strange places. So far so good. But he still wanted to know more about this girl. She had so many twists and turns to her personality and he couldn't wrap his head around it. Until one day, he was woken by the sound of a beautifully haunting melody floating through the halls. At first he assumed that it was Laito but he realized that this sounded nothing like the songs Laito would play. He walked down to the room where Laito's piano was kept and saw you playing. You were so lost in your melody that you didn't notice the vampire enter the room. When your song was over you heard clapping. You jumped out of your seat and looked like you were ready to fight.
"No need to be alarmed.", Shu said quietly.
"If your here for a little snack, then you'll be sorely dissappointed.", you said, your voice full of malice.
"No, I just heard you playing piano. Where did you learn to play?"
"My older sister.", you said with teary eyes, Your older sister was killed by a vampire. A good for nothing, lowly, monstrous vampire.
"She must be a talented girl."
"She was.", You said as you stormed out past him. He was one of the two Sakamaki brothers that hadn't tried to feed on you yet. 'Maybe he's different.', a small voice in your mind said. No. All vampires were scum.
Shu watched you leave with interest. So that's why you held such distaste for his kind. It didn't take a rocket scientist to put the information together. That would make getting close to you rather difficult. He needed to show you that he would protect you.
Later that night he rounded the corner to see Laito pinning you to the wall again. He walked over and shoved Laito off of you, baring his fangs and growling. You looked at him with a confused expression. A vampire was protecting you from another vampire? What the hell? You looked on in confusion but ran nonetheless.
"What the hell Shu? Get your hands off me!", Laito yelled.
"Don't touch.", was his only response.
This became a common occurrence in the Sakamaki household. Each one of the brothers slowly backed off and began leaving you alone. Except for Laito. Shu would deal with that soon enough. But none of that mattered at the moment. He stepped out of the shadows he was standing in and walked over to your stereo, turning the loud music down to a more acceptable volume. If looks could kill the immortal would be dead. Shu walked over to the window and leaned against it, straing at you, saying nothing.
"What the hell do you want?", you spat. Shu looked over to you and smirked. There was that feistiness that he loved so much.
"I have a valuable proposition concerning your residence here."
"I'm listening."
"I like you.", Shu paused and stepped closer to you sitting down on the bed and leaning in closer, brushing your hair away from your face.
"W-what's that supposed to mean?", you said, trying to hide the blush that was spreading across your face.
"Simple.", he said, sitting down and pulling you into his lap. "I want you to be mine." Shu nuzzled his face into your neck, pressing small kisses to the sides of it.
"And why should I be?"
"I already said it. I like you. I'll keep you safe. All you have to do is stay by my side from now on and-", Shu stopped suddenly. He pulled away from your neck and looked at the offending puncture wounds on your neck. "Who did this?", he said angrily.
"Who do you think?", you whispered.
"Laito.", Shu growled against your neck. Shu thought he would've learned by now. "I won't let him do this again." Shu was going to get up and find Laito when he saw your worried face. If only he knew.
------------ Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey Flashback -----------------------------------------------------------
Your sister's eyes flashed with anger when she spotted the puncture wounds on your neck.
"Who did this to you?", she demanded. "If it was that red haired flirt I swear I'll kill him." You looked at her with sad eyes. "Consider that bastard dead."
"No! Don't!", you pleaded with your sister, begging for her to just ignore it. But she wouldn't listen. You never saw her after she went through that door.
-------------------- End Flashback -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tears threatened to escape as you watched Shu do the same. Though you were fairly certain Shu wouldn't meet the same fate as your sister, it still frightened you. Although you once swore to hate all vampires, you had taken a liking to the sleepy earbud wearing vampire. He sat back down and turned your face towards his.
"What is it?", he asked.
"Don't. Please don't. Don't do what she did.", you whispered. Shu stared at you. Slowly he began to piece together the information he was given. Laito was the vampire that killed your sister. Shu grabbed your trembling form and carried you to his room. He laid you on his bed and then laid beside you. He pulled his iPod (?) out of his pocket and put one of the earbuds in his ear and the other in yours, turning on your favorite song. You cuddled up to his chest and soon you fell asleep.
--------------------- Next Night ----------------------------
Shu woke to you staring at him.
"Never tell anyone what happened last night.", you said in a quiet voice. "Wouldn't want anyone thinking I'm some softie." You chuckled softly.
"Of course.", he said pulling you to his chest. You pushed him away softly and pressed your lips to his. He rolled you over and pinned you to the bed. He leaned down to your ear and whispered, "Mine?"
"Nope.", you said, pulling his face towards yours for another kiss.
