Klaus's P.O.V

I gazed across the room at the most beautiful girl I knew. She was determined, smart, sweet, gorgeous and funny and I loved everything about her.

She threw her head back laughing at something her friend Elena said. They were at the bar with their other friend Bonnie, while I sat alone.

Eventually she stopped laughing. Her friend Bonnie pointed in my direction so I turned my head so she wouldn't recognize me.

I waited a few minutes before looking back. In that time I had gotten really friendly with an abstract painting on lines that was behind me. Strange, the artworks they come up with these days.

Unfortunately when I turned my head I was greeted by Caroline's scowling face. I got butterflies when I saw it and tried to say hi, but she cut in over my pathetic whisper.

"How dare you spy on me!" She shouted, causing a seen.

"Caroline love, I have other priorities beside you," I said, lying.

She looks almost hurt for a minute. Then she quickly recovered and looked me in the eyes.

"Just leave me alone Klaus," she said bitterly and then walked away, flipping her hair behind her.

She hated me and I knew I deserved it. I knew I would never deserve to be with someone as perfect as Caroline Forbes, and that alone broke my heart.

Caroline's P.O.V

I strutted away from Klaus. Why was he so arrogant! However, somehow, his scent lingered after me and I felt a pang of something almost lustful. Shaking my head angrily I accepted the fact I was indeed going mad. Their was no other possible answers to describe the way I was feeling.

"What wrong Caroline?" Bonnie asked, her big brown eyes gazing at me with a worried look. I smiled briefly to fake my happiness.

"Nothing, just had to deal with Klaus," I replied. At the sound of his name I saw Elena shudder.

"What's he doing here," she spat out angrily, her deep brown eyes narrowing as she scanned the crowd.

"Nothing," I lied quickly. Elena knew about Klaus's so called undying passion for me, but she knew nothing about my possible feelings in return. He had caused her so much pain, and she had every reason to hate him. Imagine how she would react to my feelings.

"Klaus always has a motive," Bonnie stated. She too didn't approve of Klaus. See, Bonnie was a witch. Technically she wasn't supposed to like vampires so she shouldn't really be friends with me and Elena. But we were good vampires, if that's possible. We only drank from bloodbags so we didn't hurt humans.

But klaus wasn't good at all. He killed people as easily as he would kill a fly, without any consideration. Even though I wasn't human, at least I acted humane. But klaus, klaus was evil. At least in my friends eyes he was. But I had seen a different side of him, something raw and loving, which made me want to know him.

"Maybe he just wanted a drink," I snapped before realizing i had stuck up for Klaus. Elena and Bonnie both simultaneously raised their eyebrows at me.

"I guess so," Elena said, her compassionate side piercing through her anger.

I gazed over at Klaus. He must of senses me looking at him because he looked up. Our eyes met and I felt butterflies flood through me. He smiled and I felt my lips curve to mimic it.

"Caroline!" Bonnie whispered loudly.

"Huh," I said snapping back to attention.

"We're going now, come on." Elena said. I picked up my handbag and followed my friends out the door, managing to steal one last glance at Klaus before we left.

He looked so enchanting as he a sketched away in his notebook. It reminded me of the drawing he drew for my and my heart filled with happiness.

I broke my gaze and walked out of the door, knowing I would be counting the days before I saw him again.
