I. The Mirror

I stumbled down the dark streets, where a melancholy aura hung in the air. It was like this everywhere, for the war had been raging on for years. My disease made it horribly difficult to walk, and this long, and lonely journey I had come across made me crave for rest. As I continued limping, I found an old shack that looked as if it had been abandoned for a long time.

I slowly creaked open the door, and as expected, there was no one there and the house was pretty empty. There were a few boxes and old furniture in random places. I crept inside, hoping I could take shelter here. I quickly scanned the small cozy house, and found myself standing in front of a flight of stairs. I crawled up, despite my difficulty in walking. I finally made it to the top and saw that this small attic was just like any other room in the house, except that there something big draped with a piece of cloth, leaning on one side of the wall. I made my way there, and found myself face to face with a great mirror.

I stared at the reflection of myself in the mirror. A small girl, around the age of 12, with short yellow hair, grey eyes, and who wearing a dress the colour of green, stared back.

Suddenly, the image on the mirror flashed, and where there used to be my reflection, now had a boy, who looked surprisingly..... like me. He was wearing a navy blue cloak and a black outfit inside it, just like the clothes of a magician. He smiled at me and spoke.

"Hey, I'm Len. Nice to meet you."

For a second, I was at a loss of words. Everything had happened so suddenly. Was it even possible for a boy to appear in any random mirror?

"Uh hi. I... I'm Rin..."

"Rin? What a pretty name! It's a perfect name for a girl like you!"

"Um, yeah. Thanks. Can I ask you something?"

"Hmm? Yeah! Sure. Ask whatever you want."

"How are you here?"

"Oh! Yeah, you must be surprised finding a boy in your mirror. I'm a magician, from a place called Magic City."

Suddenly, my head started hurting. It was like... like I was trying to remember something... A memory from a long forgotten past.

"Hey Len, do I know you from somewhere?"

For a second, Len's smile vanished. He quickly smiled again, but yet he was still silent. Did I ask something I wasn't supposed to?

"No... You don't know me." He finally said.

"Really? Okay... I just felt like I knew you from somewhere. Maybe it was just a feeling."

"Maybe... You know what? I really like you. You're a nice girl to be with. Before you came, I was really lonely. Is it okay if call you my very first friend?"

"Yeah! You can!"

Len sure knew how to cheer me up. Well now, I knew I wouldn't be lonely. At least, for a while.
