Katelynn's P.O.V.

You know, life for me is pretty easy, I guess. I mean, it isn't the best life, but I make the most of it. My mother, Elanor, is the best mother in the world. She always cooks me the best food, is always there for me when I need her, and is just a good freind. The same with my father, except for the cooking. He can't cook for shit, but I love him nonetheless.

I know, I know. Being freinds with your parents isn't the coolest thing, but you know what? I dont give a damn. I love my parents and I would do anything for them.

I hate those days when I get into an argument with them. When we do fight, it isnt just some little scuffle or exchanging hateful words. It is a full-out war, and it always makes me very melancholy in the end, because I know I should be grateful for them, but my pride always gets in the way, and everything just gets worse. And by worse, I mean that I always get a lecture when everything is fine and dandy.

Just then, I hear a knock on my door. I groan as I slowly roll off my bed and land on the floor with an "Oof!". I facepalm myself. I have to remember to stay in the middle of the bed instead of sleeping on the edge like I always manage to do. Oh well.

"What is it?" I asked with bitterness evident in my voice.

"Honey, we need to talk." I heard her reply. I groaned out of mental anguish once again.

"Can't I just-" I say before getting cut off by my mother's authorative voice. "Katelynn Dianna Smith, open the door now." I sigh before getting up. I slowly make my way to the wooden door and when I open it, I see my mom standing there, looking just a bit impatient.

"Ok what do you want?" I asked, seeming disinterested.

"Did you mean what you said?" She asked me, suddenly toning down her voice. She sounded like she was trying to care for a child. Right.

"Im not a child mom. I can handle myself." I replyed.

"I know." She said. "Its just that I love you and I just want you to be safe."

"Going to the prom is very dangerous." I remarked with sarcasm.

"Katelynn. I still stand by what I said. You are not going to the prom. You are coming with your father and I for a small trip. I promise it wont be long. Just for a few days."

"A few days my ass." I mumbled.

"Look, trust me okay? I need you to come with us. Dont you want to see your cousins?" She asked.

"Im not five years old mom. I dont have to have 'playdates'," I countered. "Can't I just stay with Jasmine while you're gone?" She sighed.

"...Fine, but you have to promise you will go to the next family outing. With no complaints." She finally relented. I gasped and hugged her right there. I could see her eyes opening in shock, probably because I knocked the wind out of her.

"Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!" I said excitedly. My mother groaned, since she knew all about the, 'I love you when you give me what I want' routine that most kids do. After resisting the hug for a moment, she hugged me back, and honestly, it was nice to hug my mom after our little skirmish.
