"Did you feed him before you guys came?" Alexis asked, watching Mike struggle with Marvin as the toddler refused to cooperate.
Mike nodded, wrestling with the unruly toddler as Marvin protested the entire nappy changing process. "Yes, which may have proven to be one of my brighter ideas because it appears by his attitude that it is nap time."
"Marvin Nathan Watson, if you don't stop it........," Mike warned, grabbing ahold of Marvin's legs with one hand as he situated the clean nappy underneath the boy. Marvin arched his back up high and quickly rolled to his left, Mike losing his grip on his son's little legs in the process.
"Nooooooo!" Marvin wailed, crying as his father grabbed ahold of his legs once more and quickly fastened the nappy around his bum. Alexis walked over and waited for Mike to finish dressing Marvin before she took him from his exhausted father, cradling him close to her chest. She noticed his eyes were red, a telltale sign that he was ready for some sleep.
Slowly, Alexis rocked back and forth on her heels, lightly humming as she moved. She quickly grabbed his blanket and stuffed dragon from his bag. Handing him each, she continued to move, each rock causing his eyelids to droop and close a bit longer than the previous flutter of a blink. "So......Cordelia's back."
Mike flopped backwards on the bed in the room and groaned. "Don't say that blasted woman's name in front of me."
"She's probably at her parents' place, thinking of her next grand plan to trap you," Alexis teased, her voice soft as Marvin's cries began to fade into heavy sighs. "Though you should you be careful. If memory serves me right, she wasn't all that brilliant when it came to planning anything."
"She's not all that brilliant period," Mike said with a snort. "Bloody pain in my ass, she is."
She turned around and gave him a pointed stare. "Really?"
He sat up slightly, propped up only by his elbows. "Don't even think about scolding me for my language when it comes to that woman, Miller. It's a goddamn reflex."
Rolling her eyes, she watched him flop back against the mattress once more. Gently, she kissed Marvin's forehead and laid him down on a small green crib in the room that her parents had bought back when Issac had been a baby - a crib that had been used by Jay and Karl too. A purple colored crib was also in the corner of the room - that had been used by Mira, Ara and Layla. Alexis smiled, thinking of her parents, who really did love all of the Greene and Watson kids and were always offering to babysit them, be it during the day or even overnight.
Taking a seat next to Mike on the bed, Alexis leaned forward, her hands cupped over her nose and mouth as she sighed. "Cordelia.....umm, if you remember, she never liked me. When she finds out that Delphina asked me to - "
"It doesn't matter," Mike interrupted, rather definitively. "You've already adopted them - she can't do anything."
Alexis sighed again. "I still should have thought this through. She is the children's aunt, so obviously she has every right to have an input as to who stays in their lives. And there's also Delphina's parents and your father -"
"Miller. Shut up."
"I should have thought this through," she repeated, her hands now nervously rubbing against the fabric covering her thighs. "This is going to be a disaster."
"Miller, look at me."
She turned, looking over her shoulder at Mike as he cracked his emerald eyes open. "What?"
"Shut up," he reiterated, speaking slowly. "You are not allowed to add to my migraine today."
Alexis stared at him, looking somewhat remorseful for a moment before quickly smacking a hand right into his gut. Mike groaned, rolling over to his side for a moment as he glanced at her. "Hey, that hurt!"
"Don't tell me to shut up!"
"Don't go all crazy ranting on me and I won't have to tell you to shut up!"
She smacked him again, only this time he shoved her back. "I most definitely wasn't crazy ranting, you bloody git!"
"You were too, you irritable woman - and quite frankly you are no good to yourself or anyone else when you start rambling. So keep it together," Mike replied, smirking as he caught her wrist, preventing her from hitting him once more.
She tried to pull her arm away, but he was stronger than her, catching her other wrist in the process. Alexis did her best to fight against him, but before she knew it, she was flat on her back with Mike almost on top of her, pinning her wrists above her head to the mattress with a devilish smirk on his face.
Alexis glared at him. "Get off me, Michael. Now!"
"Oh no," he said with a laugh. "This is the most fun I've had all day - I plan on enjoying it."
"You'll be rethinking that plan when my knee finds your balls," Alexis threatened.
"You wouldn't."
"Keep this up and you'll find out."
He leaned in close, his hands holding onto her wrists the only thing keeping him upright, their noses barely touching. "I'm never going to say this enough," he said, his tone hushed but serious. "But, we need you. I don't care what Cordelia says, or if her and Delphina's parents, along with my father, come completely unglued......or anything else - I don't honestly care. I need you so stop panicking. Please."
Before Alexis could formulate any reply, they heard footsteps nearing the door. The two jerked up and Mike immediately sprang to his feet. Alexis wasn't that quick as she was still half lying on the bed when Mira opened the door to the guest bedroom.
"Dad? Lexi? Nana's saying that the food is getting cold......"
Mira trailed off, as she took in the state in which the adults were in. "Are you guys okay?"
"We'll be down in a minute," Mike said, plain as day.....as if his daughter hadn't walked in on what could have been potentially misconstrued into something else entirely.
"Right," Mira droned, giving the two of them a peculiar look before disappearing. Bouncing down the stairs, she rounded the banister and walked through the living room to get to the dining room, where everyone was sitting. Sliding into her seat, she picked up her napkin and placed it in her lap.
"Well?" Faith asked, passing her the platter of chicken wings.
Mira tucked her hair back behind her ears and placed three wings on her plate and another three on Ara's plate. "I.....I think they're going to be a minute."
Faith arched an eyebrow, watching Delphina serve herself some macaroni and cheese out of the corner of her eye. "Be a minute or need a minute?"
"Faith....." Will drawled, staring over his glasses at his wife while he helped Ara to settle her napkin properly.
"Like I know!" Mira exclaimed, her words rushed as she loaded her plate with too many carrots and potatoes. "Dad just said to give them a minute."
