I think that everybody has at least two sides to them. The one they want you to see and the one they don't. I know that's true because I'm like that.

I pulled up the collar of my coat, trying to hide my face from the biting cold. The wind whipped against my ears, turning them a bright red color. The frozen bench made me numb as I looked out at the night. It had been twenty minutes since I got the signal that the suspect was near. My breath swirled in the air in front of me and I leaned back on my hands. The stars shone through the clouds and lit up the street. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a flicker of light and shifted my gaze towards it. The boy was looking down at his phone as he walked in my direction. When he reached me, he sat down beside me on the bench. He put away his phone and said, "Who are you waiting for?"
"You." I replied, an edge to my voice.
"Oh? And why might that be?" He asked casually and turned towards me, a smirk on his face.
"I seem to remember you saying that you would be back in time for orientation. Yet, it has come and gone and here you are."
"Yeah, about that. I don't think it really fits into my schedule this year. I'm pretty busy." He said as he rubbed the back of his neck.
"How do you expect to graduate if you never go to school?"
He grinned mischievously and replied, "Who said anything about graduating?"
He got up and headed off in the opposite direction I was supposed to take him; I followed.
"At least go back with me so I don't have to keep chasing after you." I pleaded.
"Sorry, I've been enjoying your constant company so much over the last month that I must, respectfully, decline your offer."
A bus pulled up at the curb and he hopped on; looking back only briefly to give me a devilish grin. I glared at him. I realized that I was unable to do anything to stop him and reluctantly started back towards the car that was waiting to take me back to the academy.
