Just a warning that I've slightly altered the ages of the characters
-Violet POV-
Being a witch is definitely something I'm really proud of. Since both my parents are magical there was a high chance I would have the ability as well. I first started showing signs that I had magical abilities when I was 4 years old and was able to make flowers grow as soon as they had been planted. I was also able to bring them to life again if they died. It's become an occurring joke that I was given the correct name because of this. Now my parents always have a vase of violets in the kitchen.
"Are you missing school?" My mum asked as she saw me fiddling with my wand. It's a dark wood and has a smooth handle. On the handle end there is a small section that has a vine wrapping round it, which is almost black in colour. I like it, I think it suits me well. I didn't know what to expect when I visited Ollivanders wand shop, but it definitely wasn't something like this. I always expected myself to end up with a pale wood that had a twiggy look. I'm glad I was wrong.
"A little. I love seeing you both but... I know you understand. Hogwarts is just-"
"A home from home" my mum smiled
"Yeah" I agreed and looked at my wand again "a home from home" I felt my heart clench at the thought of my home in Hogwarts. I thought about my bedroom and the common room. I thought about my friends there and the quidditch matches. I thought about the great hall and all the amazing feasts we've had there. I thought about Fred.
Just before we left for summer break, he and George got themselves in some trouble with Filch and were promised to be punished when they returned. I knew they'd get out of it somehow though.
"You can go a few days earlier to see him if you want" my mum assured me.
"No, it's okay. Besides, I'm enjoying my time here" I smiled and put my wand away to distract myself from missing Hogwarts and my friends and Fred.
"Do you need any help packing your stuff up?" She asked me
"No, thank you. I actually quite like packing these days. Quite a mundane task but it's mindless and a good time to switch off"
"Okay, well let me know. Besides it's much easier when I can just use magic to pack"
"No need to rub it in" I smiled which made her laugh.
I watched as she tended to the vase of violets on the counter and smiled when I saw her face light up at the sound of my dad coming home.
"Hi darling" he smiled and gave her a kiss "and hello my little darling" he smiled and kissed my hair
"Hi dad"
"I've just seen Mr. Weasley, said the boys are driving Molly mad. She can't wait to get rid of them again. Apparently her youngest son is starting to freak out about starting next week" he laughed and put his coat and shoes away. I smiled at the thought of all the things the twins have probably got up to this past summer. They've probably been driving their younger brother Ron crazy telling him scary stories about starting Hogwarts. It sounds crazy when I say it's only been a few weeks since I've seen everyone, but when you go from seeing them all day everyday, to nothing, you really feel their absence.
"I bet. I don't know how they manage with so many children. I think I would loose my mind" my mum said with wide eyes and a nod that said 'I'm being serious'. I laughed again and made my dad a coffee as he washed his hands
"They're a nice family though. They've done well bring them all up. I applaud them, six boys and a daughter, they must be very good parents" I took this as a way of my dad saying he approved of me dating Fred. "Thanks sweet" he said as I put his coffee in front of him
I spent the rest of the night in front of a fire and finishing up on a project that was set by Mcgonagall. I'm in my fifth year now so it's starting to get into the really hard stuff, I found the first four years relatively easy and breezed my way through but reading the new books has made me a little worried about what's in store. I'm in Gryffindor, which I was surprised about since both my parents were Ravenclaw. I'm not upset about it as every house has their good points, it was just a surprise.
It very quickly came to the point where I was packing to go to The Weasleys for the last few days of summer break. My mum helped my fold all my clothes up and gather all my beauty products. I look a lot like my mum. She has very large eyes that are a deep golden colour and dark hair that stops at her shoulders at a blunt edge.
"I'm going to miss you" I sighed as I hugged her
"I know. I'll miss you too but you're still here for two more nights so no getting emotional yet"
"Okay" I laughed and followed her downstairs for dinner.
My dad took the day off work for my last day at home so we could have some family time. We ended up going for a walk in the forest which has a river in it. We took a picnic with us which my dad packed in a small bag that had an extension charm on it.
"Here's to a successful year of school for you dear" my mum smiled and we all clinked bottles, even though it was only water.
The hike back to the house was long but I enjoyed it. I felt renewed when we got back, tired, but renewed. It was my last night at home so my dad decided to cook my favourite meal for me. I spent my time in a long bath, last minute prepping for seeing Fred tomorrow, and getting the few gifts I had for him ready to give him as soon as I see him.
For the past few months he's done nothing but go on about how all he wants is new a book about charms, it's my least favourite class so I try my hardest to focus when he's talking about it. He says this new book would help push him to be even better than he is at it as it's far more advanced than what they learn in class. However, the conversation always ends the same with him saying he could never afford it and would be sad for a few minutes until he started telling me about a prank he and George were planning.
I also asked my mum if she could make some of the flapjacks she made last time Fred came to visit and kept asking me to secretly get another one for him. He later told me that he had never tasted anything so good and to apologise to my mum for eating them all.
The next morning I said goodbye to my dad as he left for work and told him I would see him at Christmas. I could see he was about to cry so he quickly pecked my mum and left the house. I spent a few hours with my mum as she fussed over me and made sure I had everything I needed before grabbing a handful of floo powder and stepping into the fireplace.
When I got to the Weasleys Molly was in the kitchen cleaning up. I ran to give her a hug and she wailed with glee and squeezed me tight.
