King and Queen of Mafia

Chapter 9

We now mostly had breakfast together unless Kai and Enzo had some work. Which was most of the days. Sometimes I wanted to know what exactly they did but I think pigs would start flying before Kai let me get involved in the mafia more than I already am. Meaning just knowing about it.

I chose to wear a grey track pant and a sweatshirt along with it for the day and went downstairs for breakfast. When I reached the kitchen, I was totally surprised by what I saw.

"What are you doing Kai?" I asked surprised that Kai was wearing an apron and by the looks of it, making breakfast. I didn't know he could cook.

"Making breakfast." he shrugged giving me a glance.

"You can cook?" I walked behind him to get a closer look at what he was doing.

"Not much. Just a dish or two." his behaviour was quite warm compared to what I had seen over the days.

"So what are you making?" I asked looking over his neck.

"Pancakes" he replied.

"And also, could you please stop breathing on my neck?" he said with a chuckle. He could laugh! And it was the most beautiful and sexiest sound I had ever heard and it was just a chuckle. I wondered how his actual, genuine laugh would sound like.

"Umm is there any special occasion?" I asked, stepping back because this wasn't Kai. Or maybe he was, but he had put on the other personality because of his work. This Kai was nice so far.

"Leo's 12th birthday. He loves my pancakes." 

So it was Leo's birthday today.

"Happy birthday Leo!" Kai and I said in unison as Leo entered.

"Thank you" he grinned. "How did You know, Rose?"

"Kai told me."

"So any special plans today?" I asked looking between the both of them. I didn't know how they celebrated birthdays.

"I will spend some time with my brother and then we will have a party tonight." Kai told me and Leo.

"Okay." he agreed.

"Mmm. These are awesome." I said as I ate the pancakes made by Kai. They were heaven. And usually, I wasn't a pancake person. "Totally delicious" I smacked my lips.

"Yeah Kai. These are my favourite." Leo agreed.

"Glad you liked them." Kai ruffled Leo's hair as he removed his apron and came over to join us.

"Happy Birthday Leo!" Enzo and Dana wished as they entered the room.

"Thank you"

"So we are having pancakes today." Enzo said as he sat down.

"Made by my brother." Leo added.

"Cool"

"Want to go for a walk with me?" Dana asked as I was about to get back to my room to do nothing.

"Oh sure. But I guess it will have to be inside the mansion gates. We don't want to make Kai angry, do we?" I laughed.

"Okay. We will roam around in the forest area then. I will have to take Lex too. Be right back." she went to get Lexi. I had never actually been around the forest area.

In just a few minutes, she returned with Lexi who wanted to come to me the minute she saw me. I think we had some kind of special bond. She grinned her million dollar smile when I took her in my arms.

"Enzo said you received your degree just before you came here." Dana said as we strolled in the forest.

"Oh yeah. Just a day before I came here." I nodded.

"So what degree?"

"MBA. Business is the most appealing to me." I replied. "What about you?" I asked her.

"I am a Doctor. I work in a hospital even though Enzo tells me there is no need to. He is super rich. But I am on a leave for Lex right now. I don't know when I will be joining back. Tell me something more about you." It was funny how she saved lives and her husband did the exact opposite. 

"Well there is nothing much to know about me." I shrugged " Aunt Jamie found me all alone on the streets when I was two. When she found no connections to my family, she adopted me. Then nothing much interesting happened just my school and college life. That is before I came here, of course. Now my life feels so different." There. I told my life story in just three sentences.

"Oh. So you don't know who your parents are?" she asked with a sorry look on her face.

"Nope." I was used to people giving me those sympathetic looks. Although Jamie never let me feel sad or something about my parents.

 "What about you?" I asked.

"I met Enzo when he was 16 and I was 18. Then eventually we got onto a relationship. But I did not know anything about this mafia thing until before our wedding. We only used to meet somewhere outside or at my house. Never at his. It was a real shock for me when I learned about the mafia, but I warmed up to all of it over time and here I am." she shrugged. 

I found her and Enzo's story kind of cute. They were so nice to each other.

"Sorry Leo. I didn't get you anything." I apologised for the thousandth time as all of us sat while Leo unpacked his gifts after the party was over.

"I told you, it's okay." he said.

"Fine. But let me tell you, it is all because of Kai. He wouldn't let me get out of the mansion to bring you a present." I complained.

"No matter what, you are not leaving the mansion." Kai said. He was so nice to Leo. Couldn't he at least speak a little politely to me? 

Kai had given Leo some special weapons which he wasn't allowed to use before. What a nice gift. And Enzo and Dana gave him a lot of new video games. This was actually a nice gift. I wish I was given such kind of gifts when I was his age. I did get a lot of gifts but ten video games?

I guess I had to get used to their rich lifestyle if Kai was making me stay here.
