You placed the black and now withering rose down on your desk. Sighing, you watched it crumble slightly. Today is the funeral of your mother. She passed while fighting a villain in the city. The villain's quirk was Medusa, and despite your mother being screamed at to not look, she slipped, her body forever frozen in a prison of solid marble. To be honest, you were scared to see her. You knew she would be put in the graveyard with no change, and you couldn't really imagine seeing your lifeless mother frozen in time.
You walked over to your mirror, taking in your appearance. The dress you wore was an elegant black but modest dress, and you wore high heels. Your hair was put in a high ponytail with a black ribbon. As your eyes trailed up your figure in the mirror, you locked eyes with yourself. You looked terrible. Your face was puffy from crying, your hair was disheveled, and your eyebags beyond noticeable. You had't slept well ever since her death, which really took a toll on both your mental and physical health.
You were just about to fix your hair when you heard someone call from downstairs, "(name) its time to go, are you ready?". It was your aunt Futima Hiraki. You and your mother lived with your aunt ever since your father passed away 6 years ago. You shuddered at the thought of both your parents being gone forever. You forced yourself down the stairs where you were met by your aunt. She seemed tired, which is a rare sight. Your aunt's quirk is Energy Holder, which means she has extreme stamina and she can transfer electrical energy into energy her body can use, which grants her the ability to survive with little to no sleep. You on the other hand, never received a quirk. You were 20 now, and have accepted your quirkless fate.
Your aunt led you out of the house towards the car, and you hopped in the passenger seat. It was then you realized how gloomy the weather was, rain threatening to pour down at any second. Your aunt pressed the start button in the car and you felt it rumble to life. You increasingly became anxious as she drove through the busy streets of New York City. The silence in the car was pleasant as you both watched the roads through the window in front of you. You finally spoke up "Futima, do you miss (mother's name)?" She took a couple of seconds to process your question, and quietly responded, "Yes (name), I do miss her dearly. You know that she would always praise you for being such a great daughter, and I know she is somewhere watching you". You automatically felt tears prick at your eyes. You and your mother got along so well, you just never thought it could end so abruptly. You decided it would be best to not talk until you arrived in fear of breaking down completely.
As you arrived, you looked out the window at your small amount of family and family friends already at the funeral. You knew your mother was standing there frozen somewhere, but you really didn't care to look just yet. You hopped out of the car, feeling eyes burn holes into you as you slammed the door shut. You finally looked up and saw everyone looking at you, but as soon as you looked up, they looked away. You didn't take it to heart though, you just knew it was because you were the daughter of the person they all lost. Out of your peripheral vision, you could see her on a sort of pedestal, but you didn't give your eyes enough time to focus as you scanned right by her unmoving figure.
You walked with your aunt, and started talking with your family friends. They were extremely empathetic, but this didn't help the gut-wrenching feeling you had since you arrived. After having a conversation about your mother's achievements as a Pro-Hero, the ceremony finally started. This is where the casket would be lowered, but instead it was just a time to 'talk' to her. This was a time of letting emotions free, and to try and accept the fact that she is gone forever. The small crowd began to walk closer to her frozen self, but you couldn't take your eyes off the ground as you walked next to your aunt. You watched her feet stop moving and took it as a signal to stop. You could hear sobs and gasps around you, most coming from your aunt.
You knew you would have to look at her at some point, so you slowly built up the courage to look at her. Your eyes met the base of her statue, and tears threatened to spill out of your eyes. You recollected yourself and slowly moved your eyes up, seeing her beautiful self almost glimmer in the dim sunlight. As you took in her whole appearance, tears finally spilt from your eyes. You sobbed, choking on air seeing her stuck in place forever. Being frozen in the middle of action, her beautiful hair was stuck in the air, and her face held a look of determination.
Despite your vision being clouded by tears, you could not help but notice how beautiful she was, even if she was gone. She died doing what she did best. The marble was white with small streaks of gold in it, which made her look like a work of art. You wished she was there with you still of course, but seeing her in such a calm manner suddenly made you feel proud of her. She was the no. 3 hero in all of America, ranking no. 1 in New York. Her quirk was Water, an extremely powerful quirk that granted her the manipulation of water in pretty much any way someone can think of, and with extreme skill and focus, she could even manipulate other liquids. You continued to cry as your aunt hugged you from the side. You hugged back, wondering how something so horrific and depressing could actually be very beautiful in the end.
