I stared at the floral gift wrap hiding its contents as I waited outside the house. Footsteps drew closer on the other side of the door.
"Ohh, Y/N! Hello again! Luna told me about the project, come on in!" She led me in and called her out. I had called Luna while at the shop to tell her that I would be visiting.
"Come on up, Y/N!" She said from the top of the stairs. I bowed to the headmistress, while hiding the package behind me and ran up to Luna.
As soon as the door closed, I pulled out the small box.
"What's that?" She listened to the rattling in it carefully.
"Happy birthday! Well, in advance." I shrugged. "Since we had to cancel our meeting for tomorrow, I owed it to you to make up somehow." I hugged her tightly.
"That's so sweet of you. The team is planning on 'surprising' me tomorrow with a birthday party and I didn't want to cause more trouble for you." Luna sat down on the bed and started unwrapping the present.
"Ohh." I smiled. "That was the reason? That's... yeah." I sat down next to her and observed her reaction.
Her eyes lit up as she inspected the three flower clips. "I love roses!" She exclaimed.
"I remembered you drawing roses on your gym locker. So I thought it would be something you liked." I said.
"I love them." She said while hugging me tightly. "Actually, I have an idea for something we can do today." She skipped over to her closet and started going through a small chest in its corner. "Do you like this dress?" She pulled out a black mini dress with sheer panels around the waist by its spaghetti straps.
"Yeah. It's cute." I held it as she rumbled through and took out a tight thigh length red sequins dress with sheer billowing off the shoulder sleeves. "What exactly are we doing?" I asked, my curiosity peaking.
"You'll see." She grabbed one of the folded paper bags in the closet and stuffed the dresses into it.
Thrusting the bag against me, she walked over to her table and grabbed a lipstick bullet and an eyeliner pen. She paused on her way over to me and glanced at the clips.
Taking one in her hand, she joined me again and put the things into the bag. Folding the top to cover the contents from the rest of the world, she grabbed my hand and pulled me out the door.
I steadied the bag in my left hand and followed her lead, still curious about the adventure she was about to takes us on.
"Mom, we are going to Y/N's house to complete the project." She told her mother in the living room while I waited near the door.
My house?
Before I could think more about that, she dragged me out the house. We walked along the lifeless sidewalk and I asked her again. "Are you going to tell me now?"
"We are going to a friend's house. She is really fun. You'll like her." Luna spoke, taking the bag from me.
"It's okay. I'll hold it." I retaliated. "Why are we going there?" I asked.
"Ohh. Girlfriend move. Are you hitting on me?" She ignored my question.
"N-no." I clarified but my face was still flustered.
"Right. You like Amber. I was just kidding." She laughed. As a silence set in, she took the hair clip from me and pinned it up in the back of her hair.
"What do mean?" I asked after sometime.
"I meant that you like Amber. It's really obvious." Her laugh was hollow. "The way you look at her is just a sight to behold. You look at her like she is the only person in the world."
"No. I don't think of Amber like that." I corrected her.
"You can't help it, it's not a feeling you can control." She sighed. "I don't know if it's a good time to tell you this ..." A few cars passed by us. "... but I actually liked you, like liked liked." A single chuckle. "But I could see you didn't feel that way about me."
"Luna-" Her finger landed on my lips.
"I wanted to let it go but it's hard." She smiled and ran her hand down my shoulder to my free hand. "I wanted to know if you liked someone else. I might have stalked you a little, sorry." Her smile faltered. "I should have noticed sooner. It was all right there. Oh! We are here." She pointed to a house covered in fairy lights.
Without letting me respond, she broke into a run, heading to the back of the house.
As we neared it, I heard a faint pulse of music growing louder with proximity. She knocked on the back door and it opened to us.
"What's happening here?" The pop beat was drowning my voice. Luna's hand circled my waist and led me into the house.
Flashy lights were all around, dropping different coloured light rays around the crowded place.
"Welcome to the party, kiddo!" An older, heavily tattooed girl patted Luna's hair.
Hugs and kisses from Cheonsa.
