"Get off your lazy ass and come with me," said Makai. I groaned as he pulled me off my bed. He looked like he just got home from patrol with his father.

"What do you want?" I grumbled.

"I'm going to show you something I found."

"What is it?"

His eyes sparkled mischievously. "It's a surprise."

We went up to the roof and opened our wings. I got mine from my father, the High Lord. Makai also got his wings from his father. That was my Uncle Cassian.

He flew in front of me, leading me away from Velaris and towards the sea. I was about to ask him how much longer when he led me towards a cave on the side of a cliff face. We landed at the entrance, retracting our wings.

"A cave. Really?" I asked with a raised brow.

"Yes," he replied. "I figured we could turn it into our own little hangout, away from the girls and our parents. Besides, you need something to distract you. You've been sulking ever since Mariah broke it off."

I rolled my eyes, even though he was right. I had been sulking. My relationships never seemed to work out. I would never admit it though. "Yeah, right. You just wanted to spend time with your favorite cousin."

Now it was his turn to roll his eyes. "Stop trying to flatter yourself. Now, back to business. What should we bring here? I was thinking maybe pillows, blankets, a rug or two, a table, chairs, and food. Duh."

"Sure, sure. Whatever you say. Now, can we head back? Aunt Elain is making dinner. It'll be ready soon and I'm hungry."

Makai wanted to start moving stuff in the next day. He was always more of a creator instead of a fighter. Kind of like my mom. Although, they could both still kick somebody's ass. We had to sneak stuff out of the house so nobody would know about the cave. Luckily, only Aunt Elain was home. She, Nuala, and Cerridwen were in the kitchen trying out new recipes.

"How much more are we bringing here?" I asked that afternoon.

"Oh, quit your complaining. We're almost done. I just need to grab one more thing and then we can set it up." He said and left. I sat on the edge of the cave entrance, waiting for his return.

I about to fly down to the beach when I heard something. It sounded almost like a laugh. And it was coming from inside the cave. Comeeee hereeee. Comeee and seeeee.

I turned and looked into the cave. "Makai? Is that you?" That would be impossible though. Nobody could winnow in. And I would have seen Makai pass me. I withdrew my wings and pulled out my sword. "Hello?" No response. I stepped deeper into the cave. I could feel power radiating from deep inside. I started walking and eventually, the cave turned. There was a dead end. This was where the power was coming from. I started to step closer but jumped back when the wall melted away. Now it was just swirling darkness.

Suddenly, there was a flash of light and something fell through.

A girl stared at me from the ground, her eyes wide in surprise. They were striking. A stunning turquoise with a ring of gold around the pupil. Her silver hair fanned out around her head. She was fae and looked about my age.

Suddenly, faster than I could follow, she rolled away and sprang up. 2 long daggers appeared out of nowhere and she shifted into a fighting stance. "Where am I?" She asked. "Who are you?"

"Um, you're in the Night Court. What court are you from?"

She looked confused. "What's the Night Court. I'm from Terrasen, not a court."

Now I was confused. Not that I hadn't been before. But who had never heard of the Night Court? And what the hell was Terrasen? I tried to probe her mind. But as I reached for it, a mental fireball seemed to appear and burn me. I flinched.

"Quit trying to look into my mind." She snarled. My mouth popped open.

"You knew what I was doing?"

"Of course I did, asshole. You weren't very slick about it. Now, who. Are. You?"

I debated whether to tell her. She didn't know what the Night Court was, so I doubted she would know who I was. "My name is Callum Archeron. What about you?"

Her eyes narrowed but she spoke. "Lyria Whitethorn Galathynius." Then she charged.

Startled, I jumped out of the way. Then I cursed myself. She wasn't trying to attack me, she was headed for the exit. I ran after her. She stopped at the ledge and looked down. "Stop!" I yelled. She looked back. "Wait. You can't go running off like that! I need to bring you to my parents. Unknown fae are dangerous."

She smirked. "Like hell, you will." She flipped me off and jumped.
