Chapter 26 - The Lives in Which We Save

Nozel had us get on a bird he made with his magic and we flew off. The only thing that filled my mind was the desire to protect everything around me. Memories of my family flood my mind, the smiles of my siblings, mother, father, the times we would spent together. It was all taken away from me in one night. I don't want anyone to have to deal with that, I don't want anyone to suffer the way I did. This is how I will honor them.

'I will save everyone even if it kills me'

"We're almost to the forsaken realm..." Zora trails off, but his eyes widen, gaining my, Asta's and Yuno's attention. "Looks like somewhere has already been attacked"

The three of us look ahead, all of our eyes widening at the sight in front of us. We get closer and see some explosions being set off from what I would guess is magic, then I sense different mana being used.

"That's Hage Village!" Yuno and Asta both exclaim. I let out a breath as I think of Sister Lily and the kids at the church. They must be terrified right now. Maybe they need help

"That's our hometown! We need to save them!" Asta claims, getting ready to jump out

"No" Nozel plainly states, earning a quiet gasp from almost everyone. "The mission is to get to the capital immediately"

My blood begins to boil and teeth begin to grit. I knew Noelle's family was bad but not this bad, to the point they are not willing to allow two of the most powerful magic knights to save the people we care about. Finally losing my cool, I exclaim

"How could you be that cruel!?" Everyone looks towards me, even Yuno's eyes are widened at me outburst. "As someone who couldn't save their family when they had the power to, I think that you are despicable. You may have had the greatest blessing in having family members blessed with powerful magic, but some people aren't! You said yourself Captain Nozel, our job is to save the people of Clover Kingdom. These people are still citizens of Clover Kingdom, regardless if they live in the capital or not." 

"Protecting the Kingdom comes at protecting the capital first" Nozel responds, not a hint of regret or remorse in his voice, which only makes my blood boil more.

"My hometown is a part of this kingdom too!" Asta yells, now getting angry

"If you two insist, go by yourselves, but the two of you are vital in battle. Hurry up and get to the capital when you're done"

"yes sir!"

"I'll go with them too!" Noelle states, but Nozel is quick to refuse.

"You are royalty, you will come with me to protect the castle" Noelle agrees, a faint blush on her face. A small smile forms on my lips

'At least her brother finally recognized her'

Yuno and Asta both jump off the bird, but Yuno realizes that I'm not following after him. He turns back, a confused look on his face, when Nozel speaks up. 

"Y/n goes to the capital on the front lines with us. Not only do we need her power, that was the sentence of her trial"

Yuno narrows his eyes at Nozel, then looks at me with a small sliver of worry in his eyes. I send a smile to Yuno reassuring him.  "I'll be fine, go and save them"

"Be careful" He whispers before flying off toward Asta. Nozel clicks his tongue, causing me to roll my eyes. 

We continue to fly toward the capital in complete silence. Mimosa speaks up, expressing her concerns about Yuno and Asta, but Noelle reassures her that they are fine. Nozel uses more mana to allow the bird to go faster. The mana that I sense becomes even more overwhelming as we get closer to the capital, which causes Kaito to shift back into a human and copy our squatting forms.
