it was about a twenty minute drive to the hospital. they had her flawless face put under the respiratory mask. she was having trouble breathing, breathing in and out lightly every few seconds.

i held her cold hand in my sweaty palm. i've never actually spoken to her, nonetheless hold her hand. it was small and felt like if you held it really hard, it'd break.

i smiled slightly, but then remembered that she could be on the verge of dying. my smile faded slowly. i looked around the area. the dark skinned paramedic, the one i had asked to ride with them, was constantly checking her pulse.

the automobile came to an abrupt stop. the driver yelled back an apology.

the whole ride felt really long and calm. but now everything was a rush and i could hear variety of sounds coming from everywhere and nowhere at the same time. sirens, screams, orders being yelled, people weeping.

i was pushed quickly out of the back of the ambulance. she was quickly lowered down onto the hospital bed and pushed through the automatic doors.

many nurses began to run along with the creaking bed, the three paramedics, and myself when we passed the front desk.
