we reached her destined room. it wasn't a shared room, so i guess that besides the point that she was in a car accident, she was lucky.

i walked into the room and stayed by the door, not really knowing what to do. i stood there for a while until a nurse was leaving the room and spotted me.

"you can't be in here, sir"

she smiled politely and told me i could sit outside. i was only capable of nodding at the moment. i sat on one of the three seats outside her room.

i had been sitting outside for about an hour. i turned on my phone for a mere second to check the time, 5:23. i wasn't sure what to do or who to call, i knew for sure i wasn't planning on going home anytime soon. home, she lived right beside me.

i whipped out my phone and called my mother. it rang two times, she answered on the third.

"mom"

"luke"

"is the neighbour home?"

"actually, she is here. what's wrong?"

"tell h-"

"hello"

"hi"

"luke, what's wrong?"

"are you okay honey?"

"i'm fine but your daughter is not"
