tom never trusted anyone, he didn't really like other people until he met you in second year: you going up and introducing yourself.
he was suspicious at first since you were a hufflepuff talking to a slytherin which was supposedly "odd" at hogwarts.
you hated the stereotype that just because two people were different they couldn't be friends, you wanted to prove them wrong which is why you befriended tom.
you two because best friends— always going to class together, walks in the forbidden forest, horribly trying to do eachothers self portrait, tom staying with you and your family in the holidays, him teaching you how to defend yourself and you teaching him how to cast a patronus which he done successfully for the first time in august, tom would actually smile and laugh when he was around you and god help anyone that tried to take you away from him.
