I lay on my bed and stared at the ceiling. I felt exhausted. Practicing violin felt like a chore and dad pretended that I didn't exist. I heard a knock on my door. "Vanya, sweetie," Mom smiled. "Lunch is ready."

I followed mom to the kitchen. The house was empty aside from Pogo and mom. I pulled out a chair and sat down. I loved it when dad wasn't around and it was just me and mom.

"I made pancakes," Mom said as she flipped the batter in the pan. "But it's lunchtime," I answered. "Yes but I just thought you kids needed something delicious," Pogo stepped into the kitchen. "Are they back yet?" I asked. "Miss Vanya, your siblings won't be home for another hour,"

I finished my food and went back up to my room determined to finish learning Ligeti. It was a challenge. After playing for an hour, blood dripped from my fingers. Wincing, I used a bit of tissue to dab at it when Five appeared right in front of me. I opened my mouth to scream but Five put his hand over my mouth. It was warm. "Shh, I'm not supposed to be here." "Yeah, you're not, " I giggled after getting over my shock. He's been materialising everywhere since we were babies but for some reason I'm still surprised. "What happened to your fingers?" He asked. His touch felt as tender as a butterfly's. "It's nothing. Just homework," I said. "Riiight,'' he said, dropping the subject. "I didn't know violin could be so brutal,"

"Meh, I'm alright," I said. "Why do you do it anyway? Violin?" "It's fun," I smiled. "Although, it's painful?" Five asked. He still looked kind of worried.  I just smiled. "Have you had your lunch?" Five asked. "It's pancake day," he grinned. "Yeah, I have," Five looked a little disappointed. "Uh, well ok. " Five disappeared.
