The whip felt so cold against my bare back—This has been happening for quite some time, ever since mom died. Dad gets these sudden times when he goes mad. He gets aggressive when he's angry. It depends on his mood for the severity of punishment. It doesn't matter what i've done or how bad it was, i'm going to be punished for it. It's usually the back whips or a punch to the face.

It's been so lonely in my neighborhood, not many kids are interested in me. That was until he showed up.

We were both still so young at the time, thirteen to be exact. He was clueless of my conditions at home, I didn't want to involve him in such a situation.

His name was Yuu. He had beautiful black hair and hypnotizing green eyes. Yuu was always cheerful and loved to make others smile. He's also easy to tease, he gets extremely flustered easily.

Yuu has been my best friend ever since he moved into the neighborhood. He's been— what do they call it again? My light. I treasure him for his good friendship, love and acceptance, and I envy him for his kind ways.

Present Day

          "Mika! You home?!" The younger boy called up to me. I walked to my small window in my room, opening it and leaning down to the boy below me.

           "Ah, Hi Yuu-chan." I greeted him with a wave and slight smile. He looked at me worried before raising his voice again.

           "Mikaela stop leaning against the window! Your going to fall doing that—"

            Good. I thought, almost considering it for a moment, Yuu-chan would be crushed if I did that.

            "Ay ay, no need to yell I can hear you just fine, i'll be right down." I closed the window and headed downstairs towards the bubbly boy at the door. "Sheesh."

           I opened the door for the smiley boy and he entered my home, taking off his shoes at the entrance, "Good afternoon Mika! I brought you some muffins my mother made this morning. I figured you might be hungry considering you slept all day." He passed me a container that held 2 muffins, "Did you stay up all night reading those comics of yours?"

           My thoughts tracked back to last night, I had a nightmare of my dad again. Though of course I couldn't tell Yuu that, "Mhm.."

          He placed a hand on my forehead as if he were checking my temperature, "Feeling down today Mika? You sound a bit sick or sad."

          My face turned red and I removed his soft hands from my forehead, "I'm fine, just tired, I guess."

          "Well I guess i'll get going then? Get some rest Mika." He turned to take his leave just before a car pulled into the driveway, my dads car.

           "Why don't you stay a while longer, come to my room." I grabbed his wrists and led him, quickly to my room. Why right now? "Ah- Stay here please, Yuu-chan."

            "Mika? What's wrong—you seem like you've seen a ghost." He giggled bit at my expression, "Whats with the sudden urge to bring me to your room—" His face turned beet red, "Are you trying to—"

            I held my hand over his mouth as the front door opened and shushed him.

           "Mikaela! You son of a bitch where the fuck are you?!" I flinched at my fathers raised voice.

            Shit. Please. Please not while Yuu is here.
